ok, i am doing my own experiment. i purchased some play sand from K-mart. the package says fully rinsed and sterilized. it is a fine white sand. i have it in a 29 gallon tall tank, 5 pound piece of live rock and my 2 damsels. salinity is 1.022, temp 80, ph 8.3, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates...

uhhhhhhh, yah, that is good, that is what your skimmer is taking out of the water

no this is not a water change. the water that evaporates is pure fresh water, the nitrates and other nasties stay in the water, you need to actually dip out water to remove nitrates. then replace it with ro/di water.

i have heard of others that use bonsal and it worked. i am gonna do something quick cause i got big plans and sand is the start.

i called the local Home Depot and they cant find it in their system. can anyone give me more clues as to where to get it. whats the bag look like?
