    Cycling questions

I actually had the same exact thing happen.....I never had the initial cycle either due to the live rock. I started showing nitrates but never any ammonia. The tank is now over 4 months old without any issues relating to the cycle.

    Another cloudy water thread

Well I still had the bacterial bloom which was going on for about 2 weeks now. I purchased one of the cheap UV lights from ***** and it cleared it up overnight (wasn't extremely cloudy but definitely noticeable looking through the water from the sides of the tank). Now it is crystal clear. I...

    Another cloudy water thread

Ok, thanks everyone. I defiantly have plenty of water movement with a Hydor Koralia Evo 1150 and 850 plus a dialed down Mag 9.5 powering the return just under the (not covered) surface in a 60 gallon DT. All of the live rock is pulled away from the back glass with the 850 running behind it...

Why does my refugium water evaporate so fast.

I have to add roughly a gallon of water to my sump each day so I don't think what you are losing is out of the ordinary. Depends on the humidity level in the room, whether or not your tank is covered, size of the tank, etc.

    Another cloudy water thread

I swore to myself I wouldn't post a thread regarding cloudy water but here I go lol. I am assuming this is just related to the tank being new (slightly under 3 months old) but I wanted to verify. It is a 60 gallon reef tank with a 20 gallon sump. My water parameters are: Temp - 79 SG - 1.025...

New aquascaping - 8 week old tank.

I actually did worse than throwing away some rubble.....I threw away about 20 lbs of live rock :-(. I only ordered 45 lbs but ended up with 90 due to a shipping error. I only used about 70.

New aquascaping - 8 week old tank.

Thanks for the positive comments....regarding the rubble...I actually threw away a bucket full that was in the bottom of the shipping box when I received my live rock. I went back and forth and decided against it (maybe incorrectly). I like being able to thoroughly clean everything out and...

New aquascaping - 8 week old tank.

Since everybody here has helped me through the whole process from purchasing equipment to setting everything up I figured I would post some pictures of the progress of my 60 gallon reef tank. Let me know what looks good and what could be improved. I like the look of the two separate islands so...

    Skipped cycle?

That would make sense except that there is absolutely 0 algae in the tank. The live rock is as clean as it was the day I put it in the tank (except for some small red sponge like growths which I am not sure what they are...definitely not algae though unless it is a macro). I tested again today...

    Skipped cycle?

Ok....I will run the lighting and reactor now and watch the tank for a couple of weeks while ghost feeding. I looked up the Microbacter7 and it has pretty favorable reviews so I will hang onto it for now.

    Skipped cycle?

Ok, makes sense then. How does that affect the other parts of the cycle (such as the diatoms)? Does that mean I will skip that? I haven't run the lights more than an hour or two a day up until now. Going forward, I guess I will start my normal lighting schedule. Also, my local reef store...

    Skipped cycle?

I have never had an issue beginning the cycle with past tanks. I set up my 60 gallon reef tank about two weeks ago with 45 lbs of live rock (shipped overnight) and another 25 lbs that took about a week to get here. I put in a dead shrimp to kick start the cycle and left it in there for about...

    Live rock shipping delay

I ordered 45 lbs of live rock from here which was supposed to be shipped and delivered in two days on 11/27. Due to the holiday, the rock is sitting at a FedEx site in Ohio until 11/29 (a total of 4 days in a box). Is this rock going to be worth the money that I paid for it? I feel like I am...

    New RO/Di unit

Ok, I may have answered my own question (reading the instructions helps). It states that the "In" reading monitors RO performance while the "Out" reading monitors DI resin performance. So does that mean that it is not reading the quality of the water anywhere directly from the tap?

    New RO/Di unit

I am using a Bulk Reef Supply 75gpd day RO/DI unit for the first time. After flushing the system for the first time (for an hour), my tap water is reading 001 TDS and my "good" water is reading 000. Is it possible that my tap water is that clean or is something wrong with the TDS meter...

What to run (or not run) during the cycle

LOL, no my sump isn't empty.....just missing the beautiful blue bioballs that makes the sump look like it is doing something. I currently have two heaters, skimmer, ground probe, and temperature probe as well as the return pump. I know the benefits of using a refugium but I really don't like a...
