    Keep the damsels??

I can't believe nobody has said anything about keeping the lion in a 30 gallon tank lol. I have been waiting for the bashing to start for a while now:)

    New Saltwater tank

If it is what I am thinking of I don't suggest using the 24 safe cycle kit. It is supposed to speed up cycling your tank. I have never heard of a kit that is supposed to work within 24 hours but I guess anything is possible. I have read that the kits which speed up the bacteria growth is not...

    Coral Banded Shrimp

My CBS ate my cleaner shrimp also. I think if you get two the same size you are ok.

    Bio Wheels

When the wheels get stuck the only problem that could happen would be for the bacteria to die (the bacteria not exposed to water). It would have more of an effect in saltwater only because ammonia/nitrites are more dangerous to livestock at highter ph levels...which unfortunately saltwater has...

Stay were I put you - Feather Dusters

I didn't realize feather dusters moved?? Are the ones you have in the tube? I just put mine between two rocks and they have been there since I have had the tank.

    which salt to use?

You will never get a straight response to this question. I think it is pretty much just a matter of opinion. Both salt mixes are capable of housing marine life...I really don't think there is much of a difference between the two.

    is this dangerous?

An anemone will attack anything that touches it. Normally fish have a natural instinct to avoid anemones so unless the tank is overgrown with them the fish should be fine. Surprisingly the clown fish is not always immune either. I have had clownfish stung and eaten by anemones that "chose"...

    Water too warm....

Surface agitation is disturbance of the surface of the water. Powerheads or power filters are the most common way to get surface agitation.

Frogspawn Sweeper tentacles: can you prune 'em?

jonthejb - I thought that was the case also...but I have actually seen bubbles that look as if they are turning into the sweeper tentacles. If they do hide them during the day do they just deflate them so they are not visible? I just assumed the entire coral had stinging cells in each bubble...

Frogspawn Sweeper tentacles: can you prune 'em?

Aren't sweeper tentacles the normal body of the coral "placed" into a different shape? My bubble coral turns his bubbles into sweeper tentacles by altering the shape of the bubble. I think if the coral wanted to he could turn every bubble into long sweeper tentacles.

    Where to start.

I agree with everything except that a 75 gallon tank is needed. A 55 would be a fine starting size for a reef tank and there is absolutely no difference between a freshwater 55 and a saltwater 55.

    Where to start.

Welcome to the board Brian. The 55 gallon tank would be a good starting size. It doesn't matter if it came from freshwater first or not. You don't give any additional info as to what comes with the freshwater tank so I really can't help you too much there as far as what equipment can be used...

    Question on canopy

I was looking into buying a canopy from the lfs but they all say that they are supposed to fit over existing glass top covers. I thought the purpose of a canopy was to get rid of the glass? Also, how do you mount pcs into a premade canopy? Do you have to buy special light fixtures?

Frogspawn Sweeper tentacles: can you prune 'em?

I wouldn't recommend pruning sweeper tentacles on any coral but maybe you can get better information from somebody else.

sailfin tang with ich in my reef!!!

I tried draining my tank down that far trying to catch a damsel. They get into the smallest cracks and crevices. I still had to remove most of my live rock to get him out. Draining might work for you but it definately didn't work for me lol.

sailfin tang with ich in my reef!!!

Well you are always "able" to get fish out...it is just a question as to whether or not you want to destroy your tank that you spent so long getting just right :-)

    I need help with tangs!!

I agree that a 55 might be too small for a tang but that would not cause 3 to die within a couple of days the way that they died. They spend much longer than that in the lfs in much smaller tanks.

    CPR BakPak Skimmer

I had the same problem with installing the bubble trap. I ended up emailing cpr and they helped me that way. The sponge goes in the bottom of the bubble trap and stays at the bottom. The whole bubble trap slides straight up over the outlet tube so the sponge is on the bottom. The side of the...
