I have found that most of my mushrooms open up more in slightly shaded areas where they are 'reaching' for light. I run 2x250w MH and 2x110 VHO, and can't put them in direct light or they shrink up. Some of them have acutually moved into the shade on their own.

RO/DI units only require water preasure to run, no electricity is needed. They are hooked up to a fauset or directly into your plumbing. You can also attach the output to a float valve in your sump and use it for auto-top-off. You need a drain for the extra water to run into though.
