    Nitrates

A deep sand bed has been the answer for me. I switched from cc to sand about 10 months ago. It is much easier for me to take care of it and my nitrates are undetectable. It has also taken care of the bad green algea while boosting my coralline algea growth. I am sure there are other suggestions...

    Blue Hippo has achne

My hippo has been in my tank for about three years, and I have not lost a fish in approximately the same time. All my fish seem to be very healthy except for my large hippo which suddenly has developed what seems to be bumps under its skin. They look like pimples not ick. There are no white...

    Hippo's Lateral Line

What are the causes of lateral line disease? I believe my Hippo has it. It has the common discoloration on the face area and around the eyes; however, it also has similar discoloring along its lateral line the length of its entire body. Is this contagious to other tangs? Is there a treatment?

    Coralline algea

My 120 G tank has a very healthy growth of purple and pink coralline algea all over the rocks, glass, etc. There is very little if any green algea growth; however, I did a water change and it seems that most of the coralline above the water line turned white. Is it possible for the coralline...

    Cleaner Wrasse

I read somewhere in this board that cleaner wrasses usually die of starvation in they don't get the parisites from the fish. I have had this cleaner for about two years and I have very healthy fish. This guy eats everything his tank mates eat and does so with gusto.

    Green Chromis behavior

I have had three Green Chromis in my tank for nearly two years. Every evening they go to the bottom of the tank and flutter their bellies on the bottom as if they were laying eggs. My tangs stand by and pick the same area. Are my chromis trying to breed? 120 Gal FOWLR 1 Yellow tang 1 Blue...

    blue hippo tang...

I think everyone has or has had a hippo. They are great fish with great personalities. They do need lots of room to get around. I have one in my 120G and I truly enjoy it. They are tough but like other fish you most provide a clean and healthy environment.

    My own Walmart Fish Food

I do give the tangs nori every two or three days. I agree that adding spirulina to the blend is a very good idea.

    Water Changes & Wet Dry's

I do a 20% water change every month but have been advised that 5% weekly might be more effective and better for my tank. I must admit that there have been times when I have gone two months and have not had any problems.

    My own Walmart Fish Food

By the way, I forgot to say that you should do this when there is noone home. The aroma can be overwhelming.

    horsh shoe crab

I have tried keeping horse shoe crabs a number of times but they all end up the same, DEAD. I realize they are not very expensive and a good conversation piece but I recommed you stay away from them.

    My own Walmart Fish Food

For the past few months I've been giving my fish my own blend. I buy the mixed sea food at Walmart. Included in the mix are fresh clams, squid, oysters, etc. I put all this stuff minus the imitation crab meat on a food processor and add a 1/4 cup of water from the tank, a few drops of garlic...

    Water Changes & Wet Dry's

I do not claim to be an expert but like you, I have often asked my self the same questions. I switched from cc to dsb, 5+" and it has made a dramatic difference in my tank. I too have the same filter with bioballs, carbon and filter material. I take the filter floss once every ten days or so and...

    Glue those clams

Of course my intent is not to close the clams or oysters but to attach the base to selected rocks.

    Glue those clams

I have clams that somehow ended up in my tank. There are over 20 of them all over the tank and have grown quite a bit since I first noticed them. I would like to restrict them to one or two rocks in my tank. Is it safe to dislodge them and glue them to some rocks. What glue should I use?

    75 gallon in south florida

Phylli, I am sorry to hear about your situation. I live not far from you in Boynton Beach and would have loved to buy your tank and everything you offer but I already have a 120gal in the house and have no room for another tank. To be honest with you my wife would probably leave me. Would you...

    cleaner wrasse question

I have had a cleaner wrasse for over a year and I have not had any of my fish with parasites. My wrasse eats whatever I put in the tank, including flake and nori. He is an amazing little fish. It circles around the food before eating it. I was told that it would not last but it has been over a...
