10 Puppies!

That's right...I took Tamerah to the vet...she counted 11 puppies that should arrive in 7 to 10 days. My mother and I had a little wager...she figured...first litter...4 to 6...I figured big dog...6 to 10...There could be a number 12 hiding, so we take he back for another image on the 7th. The doctor wants to be sure so nothing is left inside should there be a problem, she said it's just safer to know how many to expect.
Looks like we will have our work cut out for us. I have to find a suitable puppy bed, I want a plastic swim pool they make for little kids, but this time of year it might be too late to find such a thing. If I can't, I'm going to check out a plastic pond liner and see of that will do. I want something with sides so we can keep the pups contained for a little while anyway.
I'm so excited, I thought I would be worreid and that's allot of stinky mess to clean up...LOL...my house is going smell doggy poo for sure...but by golly I feel like I'm on cloud nine.

LOL...My mother is dreaming of keeping one...I had to really stress a huge no. German shepherds are huge dogs, and the two we have already are a big responsibility. Besides, any puppy would be the wrong sex...Atticus and a boy would eventually fight, and a girl would land up in heat...you see how well we kept Tammerah a virgin...father and daughter puppies are a huge NO.
I have never had puppies born around me at all, EVER, only kittens and baby fish, my Mom's dogs had pups when she was a girl...LOL...her experience was just let her go and see what happens.....any insights you want to share? I was also thinking of a poll to guess how many female and how many males and a date...just for fun.
LOL...I'm also looking at dollar signs...AKC Champion blood lines...lowest selling amount $600.00 X 11 = 6,600.00 I'm thinking of asking at least $700.00. Atticus has the bloodlines but I never actually took him for show...Tamerah doesn't have show quality, just the AKC registration. I guess I should have been more selective in picking my female, but she is great dog, beautiful and protective...loves the grandchildren. My mother bred Siamese cats all while I grew up....I love kittens.
Oh...And I'm thinking wait another year or more after these puppies, and let them have one more litter...then have them fixed.

When I was a kid we had a shepard that bred with our collie shepard cross. 15 pups, one was stillborn though. This was the dogs third litter I believe. Even so my mom had to do some work with a couple of the runts. You are probably going to have to provide a little mothering assistance with a first litter that big.

This will require some work on your past as the Science/Math of 11+ puppies and mom having eight feeding stations mean some bottle/hand feeding will be necessary.

When I was a kid, we had a lab that had 14. she split them into two piles, she would feed one set, then move to the other. She was a very good mom.

She brought the runts in the house, pretty sure it was just 2. I don't remember her bottle feeding any of the others but she might have. . My 13" Beagle's second to the last litter was 9 pups. That was interesting but she made it work. After a few weeks it was a battle royal trying to get to a spigot they had grown so much

Need some pup pics.
I'm not a dog expert, but don't dogs like to kinda den in an enclosure of sorts with babies?

LOL...You guys do know that I thought she was just fat...My mother REALLY spoils the dogs..They get Slim Jims, hot dogs or Jack links for treats, and she cooks them chicken and turkey, and shares what on her plate. (I get on to her, but I really can't stop her) I was actually lecturing my mom on how fat she was getting, and she needed to be on a diet. Mother told me she had been eating Atticus' food. So as I'm talking to her about figuring a way to thin her down, she lays down and turns her belly up for a rub..... I then noticed she had milk coming in...so she already has a very big belly. But I will get some pictures tomorrow.
I have a huge box I picked up from Walmart today and it has sides, but no top, do you think it needs a top too? I already planned on having a couple of puppy nursing bottles on hand, and some puppy milk formula...they sell it in cans in the pet shops. I would switch out which pups to bottle feed, so sometimes mom would feed and sometimes we will...if need be.
I'm not sure I should name the pups except by number...I don't want to get too attached...I was thinking along the lines of Girl 1, 2, and 3 and Boy 1, 2, and 3 etc..etc.....but I think all shepherd pups look alike. When I went to pick Tamerah out they put nail polish on one toe so we could identify my choice. Atticus was the only black and tan in a litter of sables so he was easy to single out. A runt would be obvious but the others..IDK...maybe 11 different colors of fingernail polish...LOL, then call them the color I paint the toes...you know little red girl and baby blue boy...when they are bigger and running around.

Don't think you need a top.....It will be very hard to not get attached, LOL...my Pug in NY I bred 2x...she had 2 puppies each time (a nightmare) anyway....the first 2 I sold to the same woman.....
WE BOTH CRIED....when she took them.....the woman said she felt like she waws taking my children....LOL....I was very happy they went together....they were selling for $1000 a piece back then, and I let her have them both for $1000.....so they could stay together

See...that's what I'm afraid of...you lost $1000.00 because you had a tender heart...I can understand a discount for taking two (same sex to insure no inbreeding) but not buy one and get the second one free.
Now explain what the nightmare was...did mommy have trouble?

LOL...Pugs are a nightmare in general....I had to do everything...take the dogs out of her....open their sacks...use the aspirator to clean their mucus....even wipe their butts....
seconf litter she had to have a c-section....2 a.m. in the morning in NEW YORK....20 years ago it cost me $600

I don't feel like I lost $1000......I didn't really do it for the money.....just something I always wanted to do

Beagle puppies sell themselves. Our last litter I decided to sell the parents because they kept jail breaking out of the yard and I was afraid one or both would get hit. I told the wife that when it got down to the dad and one pup she could take which one the person didn't buy. Woman bought both!!! LOL!

My dog didn't stray but my mother Golden retriever was a wonderer and would follow anyone who would pet him home. When she came to live with me then I purchased an electriic radio wave fence. I got the extra collar and have used the fense ever since. If my dogs go beyond their parameter, the collar shocks them until they reurn to the safe area. Unlike an electric fense that they can muscle through then can't get back without being shocked. These collars continue to shock until the dogs return to the safe area. One zap and they have stayed home ever since.
Most pure bred dogs are easy to sell. I have nothing against pound puppies, but I like a certain type of dog. Those who buy pure breds want show dogs or like me, just love a certain breed.

When I lived in Montana I had a chain link fence. Who knew Beagles could climb..... Set up a radio fence in addition to that. Suddenly they weren't inclined to climb....
