10 Puppies!

We have been stealing the pups out of the box and loving on them until mom get nervous and come looking for them. They are walking and playing now, they can almost climb out of the box, I'm not sure what to do with them then....I have a gate on the kitchen door to keep them off the carpeted area. I'm having dreams of wading through puppy poo and being ankle deep in urine. I told Mother we will have to keep a bucket with bleach and cleaner that smells good all made up and ready to use 24/7...we will have to mop our way to the coffee pot each morning...LOL..my house already smells like a kennal.

LOL....buy those puppy wee wee pads and line them out on the floor.....they work great
LOL..I have a whole box of them and I have been lining the box...they wad them into balls..they do absorb something so I can't complain, but in the end all I will have is a floor full of wee wee pads dripping, and poo ... These are shepherd puppies they make BIG messes...I remember Atticus, now I have him Xs 10
I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get 10 puppies to the vet for puppy shots...I'm thinking two trips, and tie a ribbon on the ones that get the first shots so nobody gets left out or double dosed.

LOL....what do you drive? Can you fit 2 big boxes on your back seat?
A Chavy Impala ....Puppies won't stay in a box...I can only carry one puppy at a time, or at the most two. I can open the window and put them in...getting them out to go into the vets is going to be interesting. I just can't wrap my head around it.
My mother can't carry a puppy and walk, she has to hold on to something. So loading puppies into the car will be my job too.
Maybe my mother can sit in back with the puppies and she can get one at a time on her lap for me to reach in, and take out. I can then take one or two at a time into the vet, put a ribbon on it to mark it vaccinated and keep doing that ... until all the puppies are done then drive home and remove the pups from the car, back into the house the same way...two at a time.
I can't carry a box of puppies either. Tamerah weighed 29 pounds at 8 weeks. At 6 weeks these pups will weigh at least 18-20 pounds each.

LOL...I have two weeks to figure it out. It is comical to think about it. I know I can get them all in on the same visit, just a couple at a time from the car in the parking lot seems the best idea so far, that's the one I was posting. I was thinking about purchasing a wagon to haul them...but ten 6 week old german shepherds won't fit in that either.
They have developed personalities over night. One is a thinker, she watches us. One is a distroyer...I caught him working hard on the wee wee pads, now I know what happens to them. One is an eater and even trys to nurse on his brothers ears. One sleeps through anything. The little big bear (my favorite) is trying to run, he will be the first out of the box I think.. I told my mother that maybe my oldest son would want Little big bear so I can watch him grow up at least, I can't keep him myself...he is going to be huge and beautiful. He is the largest and born #3
Yep, it will be hard to let them go, I can tell already.

Flolwer if you need help and can get a Sat Appt with your vet if Possible and want some help could you afford a Round trip Amtrak Ticket from Dwight to Chitown I would be willing to come up and help you get the Pups to the vet. One Condition Atticus does not use me a Chew Toy along with Tamerah. I could help you get the Pups loaded and into the Vets office.

Oh man, what a shame I don't still work for the railroad, I used to get half off on Amtrak Tickets, I worked 35+ years and rode Amtrak once.
Just to clarify...Atticus does not use strangers for chew toys...when he goes for someone it's all business..... He takes care of his toys, to not hurt them...LOL
It's still a sweet offer, and for that I thank you very much. The idea of a Saturday vet visit so I can get some help is a good idea, because the grandkids will be off from school then. I have a ton of grandchildren that would be happy to help with puppies.
My daydream is pretty comical, it goes like this:
I have this picture in my head.... we try and add a puppy to the car and two escape, catch them, and as we open the door, three more take off...we get to chase puppies everywhere to try and retrieve them. So I start singing....Puppies, puppies everywhere a puppy, under the sofa, out in the yard, and two hiding under the porch.... oh what fun it is to chase, 10 puppies all the day.

I could use some advice....It's 3:30am why am I up???
Because Tam decided to tease her pups instead of feed them. I know at 4 weeks puppies start being weaned...they are only 3 weeks old. Tam doesn't want to nurse them anymore, a couple of the pups looked thin. I started mixing up purchased puppy milk and some puppy canned food into a soup and feeding the pups since yesterday. They slurp it up fine, I purchased bottles and was trying just milk, but didn't need them, I got some food on my fingers and let them taste and right off after a taste they start slurping up the mix out of the dish.
The pups were fat and happy and sleeping, we all went to bed. She wakes them all up and gets them crying and then doesn't get in the box. It's 3:00am for pitys sake. She has been doing that for the last three days. I have seen her maybe twice actually feeding them, then only for about five minutes and she gets up, puppies hanging on and she gets out of the box...they are still hungry, and the two smallest havent but started nursing.
My mother says every couple of hours they need to be fed, I think if we feed them 3Xs each day would be fine...Tam is still feeding them a little.
What should I do?...by Tuesday they will have reached the 4th week so it it's just a shave early. How often do we feed the puppies?

With a litter that size, it is more the norm that supplemental feeding starts sooner than a smaller litter.
I would nix the canned food. If you compare quality dry food to the canned, it doesn't compare.
I do a lot of fosters, our vet recommended softening dry food with water until soft then added an egg or two with enough extra water or a bit of puppy formula to make a slurry to feed the puppies. The consistancy should be near that of soft pudding. This will fill their tummies not run straight thru them like the canned food.
They will need to be fed like an infant human round the clock in set feedings. I have always gone every three or four hours at this age. It's a long, exhausting, messy process.
Thin puppies at this stage is not a good thing. It sounds like mom has checked out partially and will probably become more so. It is her first litter, it happens.

I had two of the pups that have fattened right up. I'm glad to hear it's normal and yep this is her first and last litter of puppies. We plan to have her fixed, with my arthritis and my mom is up in years, this is way too much for us.
I bathed the pups this morning, they smelled so bad..the kitchen smelled like a monkey house. I washed the box real well and only used clear water no soap and dried them off real good. I had a big pot of water boiling to super heat the kitchen.
Tomorrow marks week 4 so they are then the right age to be weaned. So I'm not so worried anymore, they gobble thier food right up...and this morning we took them all out of the box when I cleaned it, then washed each pup before returning it to the box. They were eating moms food from her dish.
My grandkids had the puppies out and playing so much this weekend, now when I pick up a puppy it licks my cheek and chin. Smelly but oh so cute.
I will try and post some more pictures after they get over thier nap.

Well, they are starting to get little teeth by now. Pretty much, what we've done is get some high nutrition dry food it has good roughage , (their bellies are still young and can't handle wet food just meat) Think 11 cases of massive diarrhea. We'd take the food, mix it in with water, and an egg or in your case probably 2-3. And mix it all together, until it is a mash.
They'll figure it out. Plus it will help with the monkeyhouse smell.

The box has a shower wall like material inside so it won't absorb..but we ran out of wee wee pads and the only thing soaking up urine was puppy fur..yuck. We put some towels down and an old blanket we can wash, for now. Mommy WAS eating any yuck from puppies, and LOL...I don't blame her a bit for letting that chore go.
Oh they have little milk teeth all right, and sharp little fangs already. Our vet said use the puppy milk mix to add to the food to teach them it's food. The wet food is a puppy blend we purchased from the vet too (for mommy to have extra calories) then the vet said it would also help the puppies since it smelled like mommy...they have been eating it now for 3 days, so won't changing it give them diarrhea? I do have the dry puppy food too....maybe a slow change up...
I have never done this before.

If you decide to change up the food, it should be done gradual over at least a week's time. I would probably wait at least a week before changing what they have been eating for the last 3 days.
