When I lived in Montana I had a chain link fence. Who knew Beagles could climb..... Set up a radio fence in addition to that. Suddenly they weren't inclined to climb....
Exactly...I don't know what I did before getting that fence, and it's a snap to unplug and take with you (take the collar off and the battery out) ...the dog hears that beep and they can't get to me fast enough because they know I'm the safe area...I love it.

LOL! I had to get the stubborn dog collar for the male. If I left the gate open he'd ponder life a moment then run through. The house we moved to here in Colorado would have been a nightmare to install a radio fence. Didn't think I'd need to, 6ft privacy fence. Who knew beagles could tunnel LOL!
Current house is Xeriscaped in the back now. Might have to try another beagle. I don't think they'd be inclined to dig through the rocks to get out.

That's the beauty of the radio collar...they get zapped until they return to the home base, my dogs believe that is at my side or the front door...an electric fence they can dodge real quick and get past it. With a radio wave...there is no running through it. The dog must stay close enough to the home base to be safe from a shock. They do get a warning beep three foot from the edge of the parameter.
The only drawback is that the radio wave is circle so you have to set it at the closest point to stay on your property. An electric fence you can place at the edge of all your property and the dog can anyplace therein. My dog can only use half of the yard because on the other side of the house is a driveway that belongs to my neighbor...to keep him off that point they lose some of the yard.

They don't suggest those on Beagles because of the stubborness factor.
Really? I remember growing up, a Beagle type (hound dog) is all my dad would let us have. They were hard to train to do anything, and would run outside and not come when you call them... I thought we just had dumb dogs...now you say it's in the very blood...figures.
Shepherds are so easy to train.

Picture update:
Eyes are open this morning, and they are getting their feet under them to try and walk like dogs instead of scoot and push...

I need advice ASAP..I put straw in the puppy box....absorbant material...was that a mistake?

Given their lack of coordination I would be concerned about them potentially damaging their eyes with straw pokes. Straw is what I use in the barn for the horse stalls, it can be uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. Then you also have the potential dust and allergen issues.
I would nix the straw asap.

Thanks for the quick reply Gemmy,
I googled it too, very bad for puppies. It's out of there, I hope I didn't cause them any harm with bugs and such. I had it in there since noon yesterday and this morning the dust was bothering me so I thought it can't be good for the little darlings so I removed it...what a mess to clean up. My mother and I dusted off the straw from each puppy after I scooped all I could out and then vacuumed the box.
I wanted to pad the box and they get wrapped up in blankets...so I have a cardboard box under them, that's it.

LOL...Its hard to get any pictures, they are either sleeping in a pile and all I can see are legs and and a sea of black and tan, or they are wiggling around. My mother has wanted puppies for the last two years, I kept saying no....well she is a very happy camper, I don't think I have seen such a happy face in the three years since my Dad died. I had no idea having puppies would make her this happy. That is an absolute favorite picture of her that I have now..it's a keeper.
