This is possible it does have a lid. But I have two other salt tanks a 46gal and a 10gal and both of them were ok.
I had thought the same thing at first, but the other two tanks were ok and the house temperature was only 74degf.

I then cut the controllers off the Won Bros heaters and put a new plug on them, the heating elements are good on them, its just the controllers go bad quickly. Anyway, I then pluged both heaters into the Finnex controller.
What did you do when your temp got that high? And how did it work out for you?
I am just trying to find the best alternatives.

There wasnt much I could do, it was 6:15 in the morning when I noticed it and I was about to leave for work. I knew not to rush in lowering the temp although it did lower by itself. I just unplugged the defective heater and then by the time I returned from work, the tank was down to about 72. I had an old glass heater that I had for my hospital tank, I put that in until I got the heater controller. One of my feather dusters, which had a 4" feather, left its tube and then died later that day. I lost a cleaner shrimp and about 3 or 4 peppermint shrimp. My Copperband Butterfly also died as did about 8 mushrooms. Some mushrooms shriveled up and still have not expnded to the size they were before the heater malfunctioned.
By the way, this is my 1000th post.

Thanks.
It’s doing ok so far. The goby and the blue leg crab are the only critters I lost and that was hard enough to take.

Sorry for your loss, I know it's depressing when you lose an animal. I'm very happy that it wasn't a total loss though.
