21st Birthday Present

Hey got my 21st birthday present early yesterday, and it's been running since yesterday. It was a sweet deal at my lfs 3 gallon Tom Deco Kit, with ls 4 lbs of lr, 4 gallons of Nutri seawater and $30 worth of frags when my tank finishes cycling, all for $109! Had a couple of questions, how long does a tank this size take to cylce? And what do you think I should do with it?
Also the Nutri seawater is pretty nie but it comes in a salinity of 1.027
SO I ahd to mix it with some RO to drop it down.

Thanks! I as either thinking about putting a fire shrimp or two sexys(that is if I can find them), and then lots of rics. What kind of corals could I put in here? I know the lights are ok but since there isn't much water it's passing though I was wondering if I could get any nicer stuff.

You have any pics of your tank yet azul? Found two coral hitchhikers this afternoon. They are some kind of Zoa any ideas?

There hard to see but they have a bright green center.

Sorry, no pics as of now. Just set it up this past friday. Not very exciting, just a lone piece of LR. When it matures i'll try to get some pics up.

Thats cool, it will be interesting how our tanks will turn out since they were started around the same time.

Is it necessary to feed them or are they mostly photosynthetic? Also just got back from my lfs and was able to score a highfin shrimpgoby and some kind of shrimp thats paired with it for $30. There both super tiny and I am picking them up once my tank cycles.

by feeding them i get mine to spawn 1-2 sometimes 3 heads a week. The choice is yours. And all corals you can buy are photosynthetic except sun corals and a select few others

ok thanks, I was sure most corals were like that but I wanted to make sure they weren't special or something. Anyways I will post pics once I get my shrimp and shrimp goby in.

Fenrir,
I have one question, I was wondering what heater your using, because the one i bought is a piece of junk and can only get the tank up to 70 degrees.
Thanks

Hey Azul,
I am using a marineland mini heater, it's slim and all black. It's preset to 78' and so far it's keeping it dean on. Got it at a certain pet store for $30

Well I just got back from my local reef farm and bought a really cool Duncan coral frag. He fragged it from his own tank when he found out I was starting my deco. He's giving me two polyps for $30!
I'm so stoked this is going to be my first "nice" coral!

Heres an update on my Deco. My cycle finished pretty darn fast using some of my own tank water/LR/LS. Amonia spiked and now I'm down to:
Amonia:0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate: >2
PH:8.4
Salinity:1.024
So I went to the lfs and picked up a nice rock of Rics for $30 and two small zebra hermits to start chowing down on brown algea. I figured it was ok to add the rics because the Zoas that hitch hiked on my lr is already splitting lol.
I will still wait until next week to pick up my goby and pistol shrimp to mkae sure my cycles is actualy complete.
Here is a pic and I also added a video to maybe see if the image quality is any better. My camera is showing it's age so I apolagize.

And the Video of the whole tank.
