That will disperse flow better but those Hydor units do restrict the output of the pump some.

Glad to know it's normal

Would one of the skunk shrimps work too as a CUC? I mean not for the algae, just as CUC.
I have a little project that I'm thinking of. I saw these Hydor flo deflectors that rotate and add better current to water. What if I add a Y connector to the pump I have in the back and place 2 of these on each side of the tank through each end of the Y? It'll add better flow to the water, I think or hope...
Any thoughts on it?
i Got one of the Hydro Fo deflector and im not a huge fan of them. If i were you i would save the $10.00 and put it towards your CUC.

CUC!!!
So I went today with water from my tank to have it tested at my LFS and they said that it was already cycled. He said it was fast since I used LS and LR that had been in another tank for well over 2 years so it was pretty much established. He told me to wait another couple of days to start putting in my CUC.
About the small bloom of algae I have, I'll be putting some snails in there. I know I'll be putting 2 cleaning shrimps, a starfish, probably a sea serpent or a sand sifter. Any other suggestions?

I would wait on the starfish. You will not have enough food to support one and it will quickly decimate any mircofauna that you do have. Just pick up a few snails to start, after a week or so then maybe try the shrimp.

i picked up a sand sifting starfish and got rid of it after i read about it on internet.. i was dumb and did not research it and just picked it up because i thought it was cool.
lukily my friend watned it and i did not have to take it back to the LFS buttttt
ur starfish will clean the ---- out of your sand and once that he has no more food heel dig him self under and die and you wont know it.. just raising your bioload.. i also heard he will go after all the good bacteria in the sand after hes done cleaning all the junk since hes starving,, as cool as they look..
unless you plan on feeding it? i wasnt to down to find him once a week and babysit him.. theres already enough to do for a SW tank and was not really down to add another thing to my list.. lol

Hahaha I also think they're cool, that's why I want one, but now that I hear about this...I might skip it. I don't want to babysit it

Hopefully someone might read before I head out to my LFS. So, far I learned that the diatom algea is an indication that my tank is cycled/almost. Should I buy some cerith snails to get rid of it or just let it be?

not always. some do some dont. they do most of there cleaning at night. my friends tank has diatom and 5 ceriths and none do the job he thought. so i think mostly not all do it. wish you luck. and pics

Back from my LFS with a present!!! I won a frogspawn from a monthly thing they have, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to care for it with what I have and from where I stand. My tank just finished it's cycle, I got my CUC as this:
10 cerith snails
5 nass snails
2 cleaning shrimps
Is that ok? What else should I get?
As for the frog, what should I do with it? I would love to keep it, but if not...

Here's a couple of pics I got:
And this, what is it? Feather duster or that aiptasia thing? and also that green ball behind it?

Ya thats a feather duster, an apatsia thingy looks like an anemone with a long stalk.
That green thing behind it might be a sponge. I'm not sure though I hope someone chimes in. Also posting in the ID section will get you better answers.
