It went a lil crazy the last few days so I hope your right. My sock has been very dirty lately and have had to change them out every 3 days or so. It stinks because I had to remove the sock since I'm going out of town and don't want it to clog. Im planning on leaving the carbon and gfo going while I, gone for 11 days. Do you think it will be okay?

I was considering building my own acrylic tank. Need some advice. I'm not totally sold on the idea but got a quote below.
Is this a good deal? Coming from piedmont plastics.
Tank is 60x24x18 with a 3" eurobrace.
Robert, we have the Plexiglas G in stock. Cost for all 9 pcs. is $475.00. Need 1 -2 days to get cut and ready for pick up. Let us know if you need anything else

Plexi G wouldn't be my first choice for materials for a DT......PolyCast is optimal material choice.....Check ProfessionalPlastics dot com and worse case I know Total Plastics carries it......Are you planning no cross bracing on the tank.......

What size thickness of material is that? Sounds pretty cheap for where I live.

Yes this is 1/2" thick. No cross bracing. I thought plexi g was one of the top two in terms of qaulity. It's got tone better than what tru vu is using right

I think it is right up there with polycast for being one of the top choices for builders. The guys from Tanked seem to use the polycast stuff pretty exclusively. But I've also seen them using Optix brand as well and even mix the products on a couple of their builds. But I think material choice is really only half the battle. If your joints/welds don't turn out nearly perfect than I don't think it's going to matter which one you choose in the long run.
No body down here uses polycast, so in order for one of the local guys to get it for me it's going to cost an arm and a leg. Although I've found 2 guys who can get me plexi-g for a respectable price. So if I ever build a display tank that's probably what I'll end up having to go with.

Plexi G was my 2nd choice and James (Envision) directed me to PolyCast and as Corey pointed out is quite more expensive......As far as material thickness.......Wouldn't even chance 1/2" material on that span with 3" euro bracing and no cross bracing.....
Keep in mind the acrylic regardless will absorb a small amount of water over time.....Who knows and can specifically say how much or how quickly, but I'm pretty sure you will see a bit of deflection on initial fill up. Are you making the tank 24"H or 18"H......

18" high. You don't think 1/2" isn't good enough with only going 18" high? What if the euro brace was 4". I don't want to chance it all so please don't hold back. Can you explain more about your comment on deflection on the initial fill up?

IMHO I think 1/2" material is pushing the limit with the span of the DT......It's not necessarily the height that concerns me, but the length. Deflection is the flexing of panels......then you start to fill the DT with 4-5" of water you might not notice a difference in the dimensions of the tank, but as the water level rises I'm sure if you start taking measurements across the top of the DT you'll see it expand.....How much who knows......
Now when the tank has been up and running for a period of time, and I'm not sure if anyone or such can put a time frame or absorption rate on it, but the acrylic will absorb a small amount of water. If you look up any specs on acrylic you'll see all manufacturers will list an absorption rate. It doesn't seem like a ton when you see the figure, but you have to take that into account. I know there were some mass manufactured tanks and I think it was TruVu tanks that were infamous for using 1/2" material and most experienced or witnessed bowing; and bowing that was noticeable with the naked eye......
The object or obstacle your trying to overcome is minimizing or eliminating any deflection(bowing) at all in your DT. Without any cross bracing necessitates thicker material.....Where 1/2" might be feasible with cross bracing, it wouldn't IMHO be ok for something like a rimless tank. 3" euro bracing isn't a whole lot in my mind......Now stepping up to 3/4" material and then using a 3-4" euro bracing I can see as doable.......

I took a shot of this tank a while ago when I first saw it. It's a 48" x 24" x 12" rimless made out of 3/4" material. Although it didn't turn out in the picture very well, I chose to take it because when I saw it my first thought was that the tank was bowing/deflecting/flexing pretty significantly. So it's creates some distortion when viewing the inside of the tank on either side. But it's especially noticeable on the front and the back. So this tank would actually be smaller than what you're looking to build. Had this tank had a 4" eurobrace (with center brace) it probably would have been just fine. But if it were made out of 1/2" I think you'd still see some bowing/deflection even with a 4" brace.

Very good example Corey......That does look like a good bit of deflection......4" might still be noticeable, but definitely not nearly as exaggerated with that tank with no bracing at all......

Thanks for the example. Corey or Shawn what would be my best option then without having a center brace with those dimensions? Would it be 1"?

1" would be your best option, but price is killer.....I think it could be done with 3/4", but euro bracing would definitely have to be beefed up......On mine I used 1", but my euro bracing is all but 9" as well.......

Going to hold off on an upgrade right now. But I need some serious help with the reef.
Let me start with my concerns and problems.
Although my hair algae subsided on the rocks that I treated, it still has foothold in the places I can't reach. I believe I found my source to be too much light and partially due to my food source and not from my water source or the lack of water changes.
Mostly all of my sps corals have zero polyp extension during the day. This has been going on for months and not all because of my parameters but because of my flame angel who picks at most of them. Polyp extension is great only when it's pitch dark and no moonlights. Since my color is poor on most sps corals I believe I may have some kind of red bugs or parasites on them and would like to know how to treat? I will say growth has been great for most of all sps.
Another issue that I'm having with my flame angel has some sort of parasite and I have narrowed it down to two diseases. Hexamita or Nematoda. It eats very well but has long stingy poop lately and the front of his head has become blackish and it is twitching So for more reason that not I would like to offer my flame angel (mango) to a good home. He needs to be treated for his parasites but know he will pull through. It deserves to have a bigger tank to swim, my tank is too small and I can't feed him enough food throughout the day. It seems heartless but I don't have the resources or the time to treat the fish right now and know there are a lot of great reefers around here (San Jose ) that can give mango a good home. I would like to keep this local.
In conclusion
I feel that my filtration is not keeping up with my bioload and need to either enhance my filtration and or decrease my bioload. I would like to donate my flame angel to a good home and that will help with my bioload and for my corals In order to rid my tank of the HA once in for all, I'm Willing to tear down the tank and treat all of the rock. I will need to remove all the rock anyway to catch the angel. I need some help on what I can do to improve polyp extension and better water quality.
Just a recap of what I have
: 33 gal DT
18 gal sump
40lbs lr in DT
20 lbs lr in sump
Asm skimmer
Gfo reactor
Carbon reactor
2- mp10s
2- Kessil 350w
Apex controller
Fuge light but no macro at this time.
10lbs ls in DT
Ato with lime
Auto dose calcium, alk,mag
Parameters
1.026
Ph-7.98-8.20
Cal - 400 ( getting this up more now that I have a doser)
Alk - 8.4
Mag - 1350
Temp 79.5-80.0
Phos .02
Trate 2-5ppm
Bioload
Flame angel
Gumdrop goby
6 line wrasse
2 black ocellaris clowns
1 peppermint shrimp
1 cleaner shrimp
1 emerald crab
5 nassaurius snails ( give or take )
5 snails ( give or take)
8 various hermit crabs
About 50 corals
1 giant dersea clam
I feed once per day mixture of frozen and flake
I do routine weekly water changes of 20%
Light are on from 8 am to 6 pm.
All rodi water
So what the heck am I doing wrong to be getting poor color and PE on my corals and having excess nutrients? I would rather have a better filtration than start going to only feeding every other day but I will if hear from enough of you. Please let's hear some suggestions. Any thoughts on my equipment , bio load, parameters, or processes?

Have to do a little research, but mystified why if you had red bugs or such, why wouldn't you have issue with polyp extension all the time......

Right? I'm not sure Shawn what do you think as far as everything else? Do you think my bioload is too big. Don't you think my filtration is more than adequate. Do you think I should tear it down?
