I don't know why but when it comes to my personal tanks - my fish rarely EVER get ich. I've never owned a personal quarantine tank - though I have owned several in my old store. I've only had two fish die from ich in my personal tanks. Then again, I've never tried some of the harder to keep tangs for more than a week or two at a time.

My buddy has my Achilles "Spook" from my 240 and he has been the finest specimen from day 1......a bully, but Achilles are far more sensitive and have never had issues with the 2 I have owned.....Now I have had DOA Achilles, but none have died in my hands.....Tonight he actually looks like his old self again......I did realize I did change something up other the food regimen....I thought I'd add a bag/pouch of Chemipure Elite into the mix......I did rinse it well, which actually IMHO defeats the purpose, but oh well follow their instructions.....

Just curious also,I see where you or someone mentioned QT all new arrivals, I'm assuming you QT corals in a different tank? And is it smaller? Also do you keep water in the hospital and coral tanks always? Or is it okay to just set them up as needed? Sorry for all these Questions but I'm trying my best to get ahead of the curve a little. I am so glad I had my freshwater tanks some years ago,I have used that past knowledge to get a somewhat successful start on the reef hobby which keeps me encouraged.

And my freshwater days were before the advent of the modern Internet. I have learned a LOT just surfing around through this site

It's cool SRT8......We are all learning as we go.......Yes IMO all animals need QT.......Corals are just as important to QT as fish......Some will tell you yes and no or snails and such and if I do add snails and such to my tank they will be as well....I'm in the thinking and someone correct me if I'm wrong they are just as capable of carrying unwanteds as well.......
Keeping a QT setup is more about space availability IMO.....During the early stages of a tank setup I think you'd get plenty of use out of it, and probably easier to keep it up and running since you might be adding fish more frequently, but as the tank nears stock, what would be the purpose of keeping it up, and if an emergency would arise for a sick or injured fish you could hastily set something up IMO......
I currently have mine setup because of the PB, but during the stocking stages it will stay running, but I can tell you as time warrants the stock tank will be taken down and something custom built out of acrylic with a nice dedicated sump and such just for QT......I haven't gotten around to it, and a ways off, but yes will build a custom QT for all corals....I would definitely keep the 2 tanks separate on their own filtration systems as well.....

Not much to update as of yet.....Did another complete water change on the rock vat in the garage today.....This makes the 3rd water change this week......I had done another round of bleach bathing on the rock, due to a mishap I had earlier......I honestly couldn't detect any bleach smell after the 2nd water change, but figured I'd give it a bit longer and this time around added a dose of Prime by Seachem......
Haven't gotten my hands on a Phosphate test kit to start checking water quality for phosphates yet.......

Finally did a phosphate test on my rock I had bleached and been running in RO/DI water and test results show no phosphate detectable.....I have another batch of LR that should be here Wednesday, so hopefully I get the pieces I've been hunting, and be able to get them soaking shortly.....

This thread is sooooo slooooww....
When are you going to get saltwater in that tank of yours? Do you have a deadline???
Methodical planning......Honestly waiting on the other order of rock.....I'm thinking I'm not going to soak it as long this time....I don't think there's a real big issue with the rock leaching, but could be wrong, but will find out shortly......I do want to soak them for a day or 2, seems it makes drilling them a tad easier for whatever reason....
I never have a deadline, but shooting for the end of the month should be more than plenty....Actually as we speaking working on getting the canopy down from over the tank. That has been a nagging dilemma as to how to finish off the canopy, since the original canopy was built for the plywood tank, and there was a height difference between the 2. I finally thought through the process, and needless to say wasted about 7' of trim due to being indecisive and changing my mind midway through install.....Hopefully either tomorrow evening or Tuesday evening I will have an extra set of hands to actually pull the canopy completely down so I can get it out in the garage for final sanding and then back into the house for staining and poly.......Remember Seth each coat gets hand rubbed down to 12000 grit.....

Before looking further into Bubble Magus - look at some reviews of their pumps.
Here, try this link. and click on the first link on the search page. Seems like the Aquabee pumps are not very good. Not exactly sure about Atman pumps. I know that I have heard some good reviews of them in the past. I've heard nothing but good reviews from pumps such as the PSK600 and the Bubble Blaster...
I just saw a review where some Atman pumps like to loose their polarity kinda like koralias... and either go backwards or not start at all. Some people said they have to blow on the air intake of the pump to get the impellar to cavitate correctly.
I don't know - sounds like something I wouldn't personally want to deal with every time I cleaned my skimmer.

From what I've seen a lot of pump issues were attributed to the mesh wheel or hybrid mesh wheel they were running......Could be wrong that's why I'm researching.....

Have you checked out the Skimz line up at all? I'm not sure how up to date the data is on the distributors site in regards to the pumps. I know they made some changes along the line and when I got mine it came with an updated (larger) pump than expected. I got the SK 201 Kone. Haven't ran it yet (you know) but they've made an impression over sea's. I think these Eden pumps have directional impellers so no start up issues.

Corey I didn't see a water depth recommendation for the skimmer.....Any clue.....
IIRC, the depth recommendations fell pretty much in line with most all of the other cone manufacturers out there and their respective sizes. After reading up on threads and reviews I figured on a target depth of 8" or so. But I haven't read up on them in almost a year now so there may be something new. Should check their site.
