Has any one else heard of this new product by evolabs or something like that, that supposedly will completely cycle a tank with in 48hours.. salt or fresh. I just heard about this yesterday.

I would much rather wait it out and know for sure that the tank is ready for inhabitants than to throw a chemical in and hope that it won't cycle down the road.
Hell, the cycle is the shortest amount of time you have to wait for anything in this hobby, HA HA

Waste of your money. BioSpira is a similar product and it too promises that you can put your fish in after 24 or 48 hours. The tank is still going to cycle...

The tank itself may be cycled but the biological filtration doesn't get *stocked* with beneficial bacteria that fast. Just be very careful when you start adding your fish in as not to overload the bioload.

Do we need a forum now for BS? If I were to bet, I'd bet that this is definitely not an advance in the hobby, but more like, snake oil in a bottle.
Nothing gets it done like the old fashion way. Patience is the most important thing you will learn to acquire in this hobby.

:) I think that forum would be pretty appropriate
It is going to fill up pretty fast when topics like this are moved in.

LOL!! look what i started.. I just had a customer come in and was telling me about it.. I would never use something like this, unless you all tried it first and gave it the ok
.
Plus if you want it done fast.. seed the tank. No matter where you are you have to be able to find someone that can give or sell you some cycled water and rock.

Also the product might be able to cycle your tank in 48 hours, but that does not mean you can go out and buy $500.00 worth of stuff and just toss it in. Every time you add anything at all your tank will go through another smaller cycle. Also the live bacteria in your tank will determine your cycle time and determine how much livestock you can have in your tank. You need to have surface area for that bacteria to grow on. For example you need live rock, sand, and/or boilogical filtration. Don't waste your money on stuff like that put your money into higher quality live rock. The better the rock the better off you'll be forever not just 48 hours.

all it is is bacteria in a bottle~~ problem I see with these products is bacteria is alive right? bacteria eats right? how could you say that something alive sitting in a bottle for a shelf life of 2-3 years is still going to be ALIVE when it gets put in the tank. It might kick start the cycle but I dont see where it can make is stockable in 24-48 hours it takes longer than that for the sand to settle. LOL

Yeast is quite different then a 48 hour magic cycle. Yeast is short lived once it is exposed to air. It has to mix with a sugar then ferment.
As the yeast feeds on the sugar, it creates two digestive byproducts—alcohol (ethanol) and carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is what leavens the bread—carbon dioxide gases filter through the dough creating loft. The alcohol is evaporated in baking.
This product is suggesting that it contains bacteria that will contribute to the nitrogen cycle. A process that keeps on going. Much as "live" sand that is dry in a bag claims to. Add a bag of that to a tank and toss a fish in. Tell me that the tank does not cycle.

Beth is absolutely right here, (did I really just say that?
). There are tons of products that supposedly cycle the tank instantly. In fact if you look on a bag of livesand it will also claim an immediate cycle and suggest that the tank is ready for fish right away. I've seen them all and tried a few to speed up the cycle. They may help to speed things up but you will still get the ammonia/nitrite spike and I've never seen a product cycle a tank in less than a month. JMO

The cycle still happens. There is really no shortcut other than buying fully cured rock at a mighty price.
