i was gonna use the penguin as a return, its not gonna be in the display, its gonna be in the pump section of the sump

that return will be fine (use a flare end on it)... but remember... you need to make sure you're using gravity because the HOB pump and the return pump are not going to flow the exact same.. one will flow more than the other...

Just put the 2.5g on a mini stand.. like 3inches or whatever above the 2g and do a mini me overflow.. lol
look at the CPR overflow box for ideas.. man..damn you're gonna make me have to build you one? I thought you knew how to use tools...
you could always hide a rubber tube that goes around the inside of the plastic trim with holes in it(make sure the water exits below the water line so you don't get bubbles and such) to put flow all over the tank from the return pump while hilding equipment.. I dunno... up to you..
its your tank... may as well make it awesome.. lol..

dude, you are so right about that, and you get equal credit on this thing dude, thats for sure :p actually, u get more than equal credit LOL
i bet you thought i wasnt ever gonna get a tank didnt you LOL

have you thought about maybe going with a 5.5gallon and making it an all in one and putting a false wall with an over flow into a refugium all inside the tank so you get like a 3-4 gallon display and then a 1-2 gallon refugium in the back of the tank? Really really simple thing to do and ive seen a TON of success with them

here's the workup, tell me what ya think of this lil design
make sure the sump is turned sideways to minimize headloss on the return pump... that's all I can really recommend... make sure the overflow tube that goes into the sump does so below the water line for a siphon.
I really think a spraybar around the lip of the plastic trim would put flow everywhere in the tank and hide equipment... You could always fab up a canopy if you wanted to hide stuff too...
wait... great idea.. make a nice wood canopy with a single 20w 50/50 bulb... hard wire a fan in there that turns on when the light does... it'll keep everything cool... hide the top of overflow and the return line that runs into a spray bar...

dude, that is a sick idea, i can glue it into the rim, just under it, using maybe some black pvc, drill my holes in it, attach it to the return pump, i may just have to get a maxi jet 400 for this, but hell, i dont care LOL, and yeah, the sump will be turned sideways, i just did it that way in the drawing so u could see the whole idea easier LOL maybe even build, when i build the stand for the lights, kinda seal the whole thing off, so you can only see the tank from the front, and close it totally in with 1/4" sheets of something, stain it, and hide the whole thing

don't use pvc... I'd put a T barb fitting on the hose coming off the return pump and then run 3/8s rubber tubing around the entire lip of the tank with 90degree barb fittings at each corner.. and the drill holes in each section o tube.. in a pattern for random flow... one straight across and one at a 45degree angle.. when you combine all 4 sides... you get nice random flow everywhere.
you know a maxijet flows less than the pump you have right?? if you needed to... just put a ball valve on the upline of the return to dial back flow if necessary... but I don't think you'll need to personally..
you'll be able to keep a bunch of nice softies in this setup for sure... maybe even some lps.

oh sweet, i hadnt thought about using flex tubing, i was gonna do hardline 3/8" thin wall pvc, black in color LOL
hardline is more complicated and not flexible lol...
just becareful to not have any holes over the section that goes across the overflow box..
I dunno what adhesive you'll need though to mount it in place... but I'd recommend putting vaseline on the section of plastic that is above the rubber tubing to prevent salt from creeping out past it.

kk, i think im gonna use this aquarium silicone to p ut it all in there, it should work, what ya think?
lol probably... just becareful.
I would really apply lots of it on the corner sections with the 90degree barbs to make sure there's lots of support there..
try doing one light with a reflector in the canopy and see how that does. if you can.. mount a fan that blows through the canopy too...it'll keep temps down.
