Notice any aggression at all with the tang? A tang can sword a fish and you would not even know it [unless you give your fish the once over pretty regularly with a magnifying glass]. Was the angel hanging in his territory at all?

this may be a stupid question but do you live with someone. could they have used some kind of cleaner or bug spray or anything around your tank. not saying you would do something that dumb but maybe someone else did. If you have kids they could have put something in the tank poor fishie was hungry. might sound stupid but it happens

that would show up on your pH reading then. Your pH would sky-rocket because most of those products have a high pH.

I think everything was pretty much over and "chilled out" already...
