Aggresive FOWLR tank

Hello everyone,
I an new to the saltwater hobby and have a question.
I currently have a 125g FOWLR setup that has been cycling for 2 weeks. Plan on letting it cycle for another 2 weeks as my lfs, will not sell me any fish until then...lol
Question: I have not been able to really find any definitive advice on what a proper size tank is required for a blue spotted ray. I have read from 75-150g. I unsderstand the get approx. 13inches. I plan on having a porc puffer, radiata lion, hopefully zebra eel?, a clown or 2, and an angel or 2. What about a 1 tang?
Also, what order should I put them in due to their aggression?
Any advice is appreciated.

I would not put a puffer or an angel in with a stingray because they will go after the stingray but other then that you should be fine.

What is your aquascaping? Do you have alot of live rock? Rays need ALOT of open area to be happy.....also they need some sand to bury in.....be sure to use the smallest grain.....do NOT use crushed coral, it's too big and too sharp, the ray will get infected from the cuts.....
Any puffers, large angels, and triggers are a definite no-no with rays.......I promise you they will pick the ray to death....those fish are always pecking at rocks/substrate, and they consider the ray to just be part of the sand......the angels are the worst about this. The lionfish is somewhat iffy due to their poisonous spines, but you may be OK there. The eel/clown/tang shouldn't be a problem.....if you're planning on a Tesselata eel it might be though, they get big and are known for being aggressive.
Not to be a naysayer, but the blue-spot ray has a horrible survival rate......do a Google search on it and you'll see lots of negative posts about it.....a nice looking ray though......there are actually 2 kinds of blue-spots, one is very hardy and the other is trouble.....the good one is Dasyatis kuhlii (hard to find though), the bad (and by far most common) is the Taeniura lymma.
The easiest ray is probably the Cortez ray.....the California ray is good but a cooler-water ray. Yellow rays are great and look nice (from Florida and the Caribbean).
I'd recommend the Cortez or Yellow.....good luck!!!!

I have decided against the ray now, as the more I think about it, the more I feel it just would not have enough room to swim around with the LR in there, not to mention being picked on..

cycle? for 2 weeks ? whats the point?dump them in it will be ok .if u cycle correctly wouldnt be a few months????????????i never cycle anything

Please quit giving this advice, its fine whatever you want to do with your tank, but it gets ridiculous when you start denying the existance fo the Nitrogen Cycle....AGAIN, a Trigger is damn near as hardy as a damsal thats why they survive in your tank during the Nitrogen Cycle

what about my big puffer and the rest of my fish , cyclin is over rated is all im saiin. in a emergency what would you do ?w/ no reserve water on hand................... droppin in asap!!!!!

well how long do you think before a tank is fully cycled??? dont take my advise but listen to the 99%ers and i bet youll be doing a hopo in no time!!!just like all my fish will die as the 99%ers say but all are A O.K

The puffer went into your 180, right? that tank has been up for quite some time, sounds like that puffer almost died anyway from what you said.

It varies, that's what test kits are for...Depends on what substrate you use how much LR, if the LR is cured or not, so on and so on. My tank took 3+ weeks, but that was with live sand.
In all seriousness Slack there are in number of resourses on the net where you can read about the Nitrogen cycle, I will find a good one tomorrow, but I am just getting ready to leave work.

i just disagree o and i did not cycle my 180 either some gurl dropped a beer in my tank a while ago(she was wasted )
and i did a water change right after that w/ only tap water, was droppin my fish back in before the 180 was even full ,the over flows were not even full and on the 75 which is almost 2 months old i dropped mr huma huma in after 2 hrs.all im saiin is it over rated.i think the best cycle is with a few cheep fish like mabey 200$$ worth

First off, I am in a really bad mood cause my grouper I had for 4 years just died. So here goes....Her post is not about an emergency! We all do what we have to in an emergency, but this is not what you do to start a tank off with, especially with someone new to the hobby. You must like watching your fish suffer or else you wouldnt be giving advice like that. And yes I had to do it without cycling for 2 tanks when I moved, but I wasnt just starting out & had no choice. I had to watch the poor fish adjust & hated every minute of it, but there was nothing I could do. You are just lucky all of your fish survived. Her question wasnt even about cycling a tank, it was about what livestock she wanted add. So basically you hijacked this thread for your own amusement. And I would have a really hard time accepting advice from someone that cant even spell basic words right. I hope this thread is removed and she starts another one so she can get the help she needs from the real experts on this forum.

Amen!! Thank you for that. He will just continue to do this over and over because apparently he is too idiotic to understand no one wants to hear all this blithering nonsense. And, at this point, I don't care if this is an insult. Slack, you have just about ruined this forum. I used to love coming here and learning about aggressive fish.
Now all we do is just argue with you about your bad advice. I cannot believe you have not been banned yet. I am sorry for adding to the hijacking of this thread. To the original OP, I agree with the ray thing. They are hard to care for and they need a lot of space which means much less live rock for filtration. You would probably have to devote the tank to just the ray if that is what you wanted.

You guys don't get it. Slack is posting all this to get attention, which he gets every time. You don't think he knew what responses he'd get for suggesting not to cycle a tank? Almost every post in the agressive forum turns into a Slack bashing, which is what he wants. You're giving him what he wants.

bad advise ?mabey 2 some, but if they all listen to all of you, most would have 3 fish in a 125 and that would be to many because in 5 years they will out grow it. why bann me i never insult anyone (unlike all of you) just do things differnt.(alot differnt) witn no chemicals (unlike most of you)
and ps i dident know this was a spellin beeeeeeeeeeeeee so sorry
