Any survivalist/preppers on this forum?

Well my version of preparing for the future is making sure I stay on God's side of the fence. To be honest if a tornado, or a hurricane distroys your home town, earthquake, flood whatever...what makes you think your horaded goodies will be where it's supposed to be, and not up a tree 5 miles away or burried under tons of rubble? I really don't think hoarding water, food and such will help anyone much.
I have a gas run generator, and bubblers that run on batteries, because it's much more likely that I have a power outage than the world ending. I do think it's cool and wise to at least learn how to survive the hard dark times should it arive. Being able to hunt your food, grow some veggies and build a shelter are all very good things to know and be able to do. I love watching the shows that teach you how to survive.
I concern myself more with possible break ins, the dogs are to buy us time to escape, or call 911 (but I think my mom would try and save the dogs) and power failures. I make sure we have a plan for escaping the house if it caught fire.

WooHoo! Amen brotha! lol
I also plan to try to get off the grid as possible... I'm building my house by paycheck to paycheck - that way I won't owe anyone the day I move in to it. It will be completely mine (and the other halfs...)
I don't like to owe people money - and I don't like to rely on a national system to help take care of me. I.E. providing me with electricity and water for a small fee. I want to just get to the point where I have to pay property tax.
I want my daughter to grow up in the country - where she can actually play in the front yard with supervision. LOL I want to be able to have enough land to grow food on... to be able to walk outside in peak season and eat fresh apples, peaches or plums right off the tree. I want to be able to work and keep almost all of my money to save for an early retirement.
Sure - growing all your own food and running a small homestead is a lot of work - but that is what I enjoy (along with saltwater aquariums) And when there is a disaster close by or something happens to the city that affects my families survival - I will be prepared for it.

Well, that's why I'm glad in Arizona. No tornadoes. No hurricanes. No earthquakes. Just wildfires and I am building a dirt house with a metal roof and clearing a 100' safety zone. Nope, me and mine will be able to hunker down and face whatever comes. Capturing that monsoon water is the most vital thing and that's just a matter of digging a big hole in the ground. Our soil is dense clay and stone, so I'm just adding a layer of bentonite (which is oddly cheap but effective) and won't lose much water to leaching. Problem is, if there is a problem and no one else has water, I'm going to have a 100'x50' invitation card to everyone else around who no longer has electricity to pump water.

Yeah, I'm going to do that reefraff. The rain water from the roof will either go into the pond or into a large water collection barrel (s) to water the garden when it needs it.

You can add a filter system that makes the water collected off the roof potable. Even if you just diverted the water from one side for such a system it would be cool.

Yeah, some people do that. I've seen large 20,000g rain water barrels on peoples properties for drinking water and all the above.
Water is one of the absolute most important preps that a person can do. More important than storing water is having a source for it, having a way to store it, and having a way to filter it for human consumption. Those people that store water in their basement may be a good starter, but it's not enough.
For those of you who are interested in the subject,... 600g of rain water is collected from a 1" rain over a 1,000 sqft area. That's a lot of water if you get quite a bit of rain every year. Much more than you could drink in a year in some areas.

I watched one show where they used a big plastic barrel with charcoal and sand to filter the rain water...pretty cool

Yeah, I watched that show "The Colony" seasons 1 and 2. It was very interesting - and a little more realistic than some of those survival shows that I have seen.

The Colony was a cool show.
One thing I've done is started stocking up on ammo. I unloaded my odd ball caliber rifles. I have a 44 mag rifle and pistol, a 45 colt rifle and pistol. I have a 223 and 22 mag which ammo is dirt cheap for so I am not too worried about them. I have 2 45/70 rifles and buying a matching pistol is going to hurt, about a grand but as far as expensive rounds go i'll only have 3 to worry about. I also have a 30:30 rifle which is again, cheap ammo. I have 3 357/38 specials and 2 45 ACP in the self protection pistol department. I also have a 480 Rugar which I will try to unload to buy the 45/70. I just want to get to the point where I can get by without too many reloading dies and don't go broke stocking up. Even if things don't go to he(( in a hanky the paranoid anti gun crowd is eventually going to come after the ammo one way or another.

You are exactly right. The whole Fast and Furious deal was a good reminder of the constant scheming of the anti-gun lobby.

Yep. Holder still is refusing to release the internal memos approving of F&F and a list of those who knew and approved of the program. That's why the House is threatening an order of contempt. I've been saying from day 1, and I think more people have come to this conclusion, this thing goes all the way up to The Messiah. What galls me more than anything is Calderon comes here to America and demands we change our Constitution for the sake of his worthless country, when he knows darned well that 95% of the guns in the cartels hands have come from his army and police. Not one reporter asked him about that little, unimportant fact either. They just let him give his little speech disguised as a news conference without challenging him on one single fact. Fox News was there and they didn't even have the courage to ask the tough questions. What is HE doing to stop the flow of military grade weapons from HIS government to the cartels? Why has HIS governments gun ban not worked in any way? Why are so many of HIS citizens coming to the U.S. and why is HIS poor population OUR problem? Nope, they just let him say the U.S. has to repeal the 2nd Amendment and let more of HIS crime-infested citizens flood into OUR country.

I live on a 5 acre lake, lots of fish, waterfowl and H2O. I have reloading supplies and a decent amount of food.

We should use the same standard the Mexicans do on their southern border.

Well, the key to surviving any great upheaval is shelter, food/water and weapons to protect one's self. So naturally when one facet of that plan is threatened, it does tend to raise life and death questions.

Don't forget to keep your .22 cal pellet gun in good shape if you wish to eat well long into the future.
