Beats me why anyone would want to live in the desert. Not that I don't respect your decision. Just not something that I would do. Lol
I have several pellet guns. I love them all and have even stocked up on ammo, which is not hard to do. Lol

Yep - It's the only ammo I know of that you can buy 500 for $2.50 lol If you get a spring loaded pellet gun, it's going to take about 500 to 1000 rounds to really get good at it. The double action can cause some wild inaccuracies. I prefer pump action like a Benjamin-Sheridan.

Any place but the big city is good for me. I've lived in AZ, Northern Idaho, Western Montana and now the front range of Colorado (and of course the jungle of SoCal LOL!) Each area had it's good and bad points. It's interesting that in Idaho and Montana I lived in the "mountains" at about 3500 feet. Now I live in the high plains grasslands of Colorado which is about 5400 feet. My brother's place in western Wyoming is high desert, about 7200 feet. If you like star gazing that is the place to be. Bayou living looks like it could be cool cept for the skeeters and the storms and 100% humidity.

I lived just outside of Tucson for about 12 years. I really enjoyed the Sonoran Desert. It would have as many minuses as it has plusses though from a survival perspective.

You said you have a few. That sounds like a good idea.
A friend in AZ had one that the Chinese military used as a practice weapon years ago. It was pretty wicked for the price. Growing up my brother had one of the benjamins, Hard to beat. I would imagine the CO2 models would last the longest assuming you had a good supply of the cartridges, which are a fun toy when empty if you have a lot of matches laying about :)

Yeah, I have a Benjamin .22, a Gamo .22 and a Beeman .22/.177 where you change the barrel. I like the idea of having all the same caliber pellet rifles because it cuts down on the amount of ammo that you have to buy and keep up with. You know that if you want to go out and shoot, you just grab a tin and go and don't have to look for the right caliber. lol It also lets you only have to pour one mold at a time instead of two, to make pellets.

Louisiana is ok - like you said it has it's good points and bad points. You can't go anywhere without seeing wildlife - there's critters everywhere to eat. You get used to the mosquito's, and in fact, there are many natural mosquito repellents you can plant and use around your house to keep them away. Not that they will tote you off anyways. I was born and raised here, so the humidity doesn't really bother me until it gets up to 115F a couple days out of the Summer. I've never lived above sea level, so I have no clue how it would feel to be 5400 feet above sea level. I know that you take longer to boil an egg than me.

The real trick is being away from a lot of people near a self sustaining body of water without harsh winters. I know of a couple lakes in northern Az that would be a perfect place to ride out the zombie Apocalypse. Plenty of trees so lots of game animals, wood for heat and a lake for fish and water.

My brother has some friends down there. He called me when he was down there for a visit. He said he couldn't believe the amount of stuff there was to shoot and ran himself out of bullets. That doesn't happen.
