I tried to contact marineland...they are closed for the weekend and won't open until tomorrow. I posted the question about recalls on the e-mail for them to contact me.
I called a couple of petstores..*****...Petland and nobody else has heard of any recall. Petsmart said they honoring the recall. Do you think it could be an advertisment gimik?..it gets you in the store to return the heater and you might just buy something else while there...kind of thing.
It is just so odd nobody else has heard of a recall.
Valid point Flower. If your heater aint broke right this second, might want to wait until tomorrow to get confirmatoin from Marineland directly.

Okay just got back. They took the heater, they have removed all Marineland stealth pro heaters from their shelves. They said I could exchange for another heater or get a Petsmart gift card for the last price they had on the heater I took back. Exchanged it for a Fluval M200.
Now my question I have the Fluval and an Aqueon that I could use on this tank. Which would you use???

I have never heard of Aqueon...Fluval makes a great canister so I would go with that brand.

I was in petsmart the other day and do not remember seeing the Fluval heaters. Can you post a pic for us?
Gemmy, do you happen to remember when those Fluval heaters came into the stores?
Something smells fishy and its not the tanks.
edit: was the Fluval more expensive than the Marineland? I am guessing it was.

I will be interested in the information that Marineland gives you.

The Fluval heaters came in sometime in February, I believe. I almost bought one, but I did not since they are glass.

I have seen them before, just not in petsmart. If I were effected by this, I wouldnt do anything until I heard from marineland directly. This just doesnt sound kocher. New heaters, probably more expensive to the consumer (cheaper to the retailer) and this could be a way to shift the consumer to a new product to make the chain more $. I dont want to believe that petsmart would do this as I like shopping there.

In the 5 years I have worked there, I have never heard them doing anything like that. They will give you cash back, but in some stores you may have to push a little. The recall was issued at 6pm on Friday night, so the timing of the voluntary recall may be part of the issue. The one thing I have known with them is that they are always on top of the recalls, and will recall the entire item instead of the affected lot to error on the side of caution for the consumer.

HMMMMM...what if you have NO local stores and bought online????
You can call Marineland and they might let you ship it back.
I spoke to a pet parent today and he called Marineland himself. Marineland would not even hint what the problem is or could be with the heater. They are just recommending that the consumers return the stealth heater for the visi therm model.
So, it's not a gimmick.

I was just at my LFS and yes they are taking the stealth heaters back, they recommended the eheim/jagr which they have and I am currently using in the 65 Planted tank.

Well I could not find the box, and as you know, I have NO LFS...and I highly doubt I can call Amazon :(
I am going to call the 800# on the recall when I have a chance

I'm thinking it has something to do with a number of reported cases last year of the heaters exploding and shattering aquariums. I'm wondering if they finally were able to prove this and that's why they are recalling them.
