Ok Ok...I was bashing a little bit. But only cause I've used them before don't think they are as reliable as a half way descent test kit.


 
LOL...Yes, and I agree as a test kit they are not reliable, but in emergency situations they have a place. When my broken heater killed just about my entire CUC and most of the coral in the tank, I had to keep a very close watch for ammonia spikes. A test every 30 minutes was just silly, so I got one of those badges, if it started changing color at all, I started a water change. I lost no fish, which was the next stage of such disasters..
 
Wayner had no tests and his water was cloudy, he gave no indication he was even going to bother with a test kit so I told him to AT LEAST get one of those.
 
I just didn’t want to be known on the site as the ditz that uses an ammonia badge to test for spikes, so I had to say something in my defense .

If you dont have any helpful info to add to the thread for other newbies like me I suggest keeping your childish comments to yourself.
A newbie?? I highly doubt you even have a flounder or even a shark.
 
But in the slight case you actually do...Take them back they are gonna die in your tank anyway, ***** is a better home for those than your tank.

lol your post really make me question your intelligence...***** dosent sell shark eggs and they already had a dead flounder in their tank. My tank is better suited than their 12" by 12" tank in any case. Jp30 can you spot the flounder? haha

ive just tested my ammonia and im at 0.25 ppm and thats exactly what the ammonia badge read for the 2 days that I had it, which was about 3 days ago. So my ammonia is staying pritty constent. What should I test for next?

So it has been a couple of days...is your flounder, damsel and egg still alive? A small ammonia spike is the last I heard from you...

For fish it's about the same. It does depend on the species of fish though, some are more sensitive to one or the other, especially at the larval stages. For corals nitrate is more harmful, nitrite is rather harmless.
 
That said, the presence of nitrite means that your biologic filtration is having problems and I would consider the environment unstable.

Also it's actually a good sign. The ammonia is converting to the stage of nitrite, then comes nitrate the last stage of the cycle..for your three critters thats a really good sign.

Alright so dont much care about your fish seeing as you dont either but the above statement is complete crack! I am glad you are okay and that you were in fact wearing a suit, but any half decent race suit is 1k or more and those are usually the basic ones, why you decided to add the price in there is beyond me? Also for 1k you wont even get a roo suit, not to mention any sort of technology that would actually protect you from breaking anything! You got very lucky hands down.. it was not the suit.. that will really only protect you from road rash and other minor injuries. Also as a side note why were you wearing a full race suit on city streets/ highway?
