you are right, 2 does not equil one, but if you get the logic behind the whole equation, if a=x then that must mean that all a's = x's, therefore x+x=x+x ~~x=x

Diatoms are little microscopic creatures that are as old as the Earth itself. Diatoms use silica/silicates to form glass tubes that they reside in. There is a couple of other brown powderish stuff that could resemble diatoms, such as dinoflagellates, and dead green algae. Also, buildup of brownish detritus.
I just suggest adding a little extra flow to those corners to see if it helps your situation
