The mistake is
2=1
All of the others are correct
you are right, 2 does not equil one, but if you get the logic behind the whole equation, if a=x then that must mean that all a's = x's, therefore x+x=x+x ~~x=x

Maybe I should ask this...what is a diatom? From reading posts, I thought it was that brownish powdery looking stuff? Am I wrong? Maybe I should ask..what is the brown powdery stuff (on the sand) in the 2 back corners of my tank? LOL

Diatoms are little microscopic creatures that are as old as the Earth itself. Diatoms use silica/silicates to form glass tubes that they reside in. There is a couple of other brown powderish stuff that could resemble diatoms, such as dinoflagellates, and dead green algae. Also, buildup of brownish detritus.
I just suggest adding a little extra flow to those corners to see if it helps your situation :D

What will eat mojano anemones that can live with rays and a large lionfish?
I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Shrimp would get eaten.
I think the best approach would be the chemical means to an end.

How would you cycle a new bare bottom frag tank with minimal live rock.
3x4 foot tank 12 inches deep with a 33 gallon sump. Maybe 10-15lbs of live rock in sump with cheato.
Was thinking of just some live rock (minimal), cheato in the sump and a light for the cheato otherwise lights off till coral goes in. Thoughts? Ideas?

Hmm, Put egg crate in the frag tank, and put your live rock/live rock rubble in the sump where the drain water comes in. The increased flow and aeration right there will help with filtration. Make sure you filter it with B&W filter media before the water dumps on top of your live rock.
I would also advise having a remote sand bed in your sump as well. Microfauna needs sand in order to survive and filter out particles and nutrience. Sand is something that you can try to get around, but adds to the biological filtration of the system.
I would cycle it like any other normal aquarium. Put your ingredience in, put a small piece of shrimp in there and play the waiting game. Barebottom tanks need a heck of a lot of flow. So, make sure you have enough flow through your display tank. Make sure you change your filter media often. If any detritus or organic waste builds up, there might be problems.
Any other specific questions about this?

Going to have quite a bit of flow... the middle section of the sump will have sand/cheato/live rock as my current one does.. but I'm making this sump wider to hold a bit more.
As far as water flow I'll have the return from the sump and probably 4-5 more powerheads providing current keeping and detrius off the bottom... and yeah there will be egg crate for the coral. I've been taking pictures of the stand (build but not stained) and I have about 500 bucks of acrylic coming in early this week and I'll start a "frag tank" thread on the progress

How long should I acclimate a Mono Sebae from freshwater to full salt? (Mono Sebae is a brackish fish, so they will be fine in full salt)
