Beth,
You can create an account, and login. Play around a little, and if you get things going great, if someone starts buggin you, you can resign, and start over somewhere else. Chances are if you signup now, you'll end up out on the edges with others that are new to the game.
Plus you can ask us for advice here, and we can help you get things going.

Ty_05_f,
I would check the forums on the astrowars site. Look at the Diplomacy Forum. You may be able to find an alliance thats is close to you there.

I'm spot, at alaraph 7, -21/17. So far, I'm ranked 1803 (4) with a pop of 5. I'm making 13 pp/hr, sci 11/hr, with a sci level of 3. I'm at level 8 for farms and robo factories, 6 cybernet and lab, and my starbase at 4. I've got a social level of 3, physics 2, and bio 1. How am I doing? What next? When my culture gets to 2, in about 4 hours, should I colonize a free planet? The 2 other guys in my "hood", look like they are at about the same level as I am. And at what point to I get to start buying artifacts? So far, I don't have the option.

Also, the 2 other gus in my "hood" are French, I think. So I'm sure they are not going to attack, and are in it only for the pp's.:D :D

If you will have culture soon, than launch now. I try to time it so that I get to the planet an hour after my culture goes up. You just have to make sure that you login before your ship lands, so that your culture updates.
I would do the science a little different. Most do not benefit from odd numbers, Social 2,4,6 only give you extra. Same with econ, and BIO.
Get all buildings to around level 12's if you can.

I got most of my instructions through talking with other players. sammystingray has been playing the longest, out of all the people that I've met.
They also have forums on their site as well.
Basically if you just signed on, spend your points on robotic factories, and farms. Ounce you get those to lvl 6, than maybe start working on the galactic cybernets, and science labs.

I felt the same way Beth, and I'm still basically clueless, but the FAQ answers some questions, in a somewhat indirect way. And the forums help some, but until you know the lingo, that can be kinda.....uninforming. Anyway, so far, I've figured out that you upgrade different aspects of your planet by spending ponts on different aspects, which increases the rate at which you earn points. Then you start buying ships to either colonize other planets, or attack other planets. I think that is the gist of it.:notsure: ...........

How long does it take for a fleet to arrive to another planet, on average, without the upgrades for speed? Hours, days???

I can't seem to figure out how to spend points. I done it twice but don't really know how to navigate around. GEEZ

I thiiiinnnk, you want to spend points on the hydroponic farms and robotics factory, initially anyway. That speeds up your population growth, which speeds up your production points. The robo factory's speed up growth of other stuff, I thiiiiiink. This is definitely a game of imagination. Imagine if you have more robots doing work, more production......anyway, I'm not really sure. I used to play some games that were similiar, but one game lasted about 3 or 4 hours, not days and days. So in this one, when you make changes, you don't see immediate results, except for the decrease in time that it will take you to reach the next level.

Well, I think I see that the points are not readily available. As time passes and stuff is growing on the planet, then you get a point, or whatever. Then the points option appears? Is that right?
Yea, I read the details on the things to buy into and what is needed for a growing world.
I'm Bethos at Al Tarf 7.

To spend points, click on the planets tab at the top off the screen, than click on the plant. Than at the bottom of the screen, you'll seee the spend points button.
In the begining itll take a fleet 1-2 days to get to another planet in your own system.

You'll get more as the games goes on. You'll have more planets, and you'll see more systems on your map. It's slow in the beginning, but after a couple of weeks it picks up a lot.
Did you find the spend points button?

The spend points button does not seem to be present all the time. Some time "available" and some times not. How long does the game last?

If you don't have anything to spend, you wont see the button.
The game lasts until a player/alliance reaches a certain level of points, and can maintain it for a few days. Last game lasted about 10 weeks I think. After that there is about a 2 week period that you can continue to play, but the ranking, and points no longer count.
Some of the best parts of the last game where the last couple of weeks, and the last couple of days before they reset, and started over.
I was up to 13 planets, making over 400 productin points per hour, and I had a fleet of over 2000 destroyers, 200 cruisers, and 200 battleships.
