I was afraid to use windex because of that so I spray it on a towl before I go into the room wipe it on with one papertowl and wipe it off with another. I didn't know what to get for a cover because of my cannister filters.

you should just use water on your tank.
for your cover you can get some eggcrate and cut it into the shape you desire.

will my fish be ok?? They seemed to be ok last time this happened I just did a water change. Do you suggest anything else to get rid of the fog besides no smoking in the house because that part has already been done.

you use a paper towel or some kind of clothes to clean the tank. nothing chemical. i wouldn't even use newspapers

then i would just get eggcrate. an eggcrate can be obtained at lowe's or home depot. it looks like this (pic) if the workers don't know what an eggcrate is, tell them 'light cover.'

i thought egg crate just kept the fish from jumping overboard... it doesn't look like it would keep dust and smoke out of the tank...

it doesn't block out the dirt but it prevents fish jumping out
a glass cover prevents dirt from falling into the tank but it also reduces gas exchange.
i've never used a canister filter so i can't really tell you if it has anything to do with it. i say to give it some time since before you had smoke now you don't. smoke most definitely contributed to it. you burned something and the particles fell into the tank.

They put me on pepcid ac.
Will my filters get any of the smoke nasty out of the tank or am I going to have to water change again??

I couldn't get the glass covers due to the cannister filters so I didn't know that I could get anything. I didn't know the fish would jump out!! I always used to have a freshwater tank and never had a cover and never had a fish jump out. I just figured saltwater fish wouldn't jump out. I guess I was wrong.

lol, there are a few fish that are known to jump... clowns, wrasses, and a few other. It's always good to have some sort of cover on the tank to avoid it!

Thanks. I will certainly get some. But about the smoke what can I do besides a water change and no smoking signs?

i'm not sure. Seems carbon should remove it. I'd definatley do some water changes, though, until the water clears up.

Thanks. The carbon in there is 4 days old so I hope that helps. I will do a water change. I just can't beleive that the water picked up the smoke like that. Only one person was smoking in the house and he oly had like 3 smokes in the 5 hour time he was there. Defenitly no more smoking in the house. I love my fish too much.
