how long after u had the tank did u decide to use the living filter?? So do u really need a heater? I live in FL so im not really worried about it getting to cold?? should I have one though?
Also do u recommend I cycle with LR LS and pre-mix water or use water from our 100g??

You need a heater to keep the temperature stable no matter where you live.
I would use all water from your 100 gallon to start and cycle the tank by using uncured live rock and a dead aragonite-based sand. If you have an aragonite-based sand in your 100 gal. use some or all of the sand for the nano from that.

Cube Master tanks are junk. There are a lot of unhappy customers who purchased those. If you use rock, sand, and water from the 100 gallon you will not have much of a cycle if any and can start to add fish and corals. I don't know what all your hubby has for his 100 gal., but besides the heater I would assume there would be very little else you would need to buy.
I feed my corals the same stuff I feed my fish: flake, pellet, frozen foods, cyclopeeze, etc.
I run my lights 12 hrs. per day on a timer.
A refugium is nice, but not a necessity.
There is a back chamber in all of the "all-in-one" nanos.

cyclopeeze, whats that?
Also you dont use phytoplex or reef solutions, or anything like that?? u just put spiralina in the tank and some bime??
WOW that awesome!
So the biocue is an all in one?
I will be able to have a clam and most corals in the right? The lighting is sufficient?
Also the 100g has a yellow head eel, big niger trigger, toad fish, yellow tang, large clean-up crew, big blue chromis, and filtration by 30g fuge with the usual plants and mangrove shoots, plus a preditory sifter we found at the beach.
We had a hug V-lion but he died. He was like 6 years old.

You'll be able to keep almost anything in the BioCube once it is well-established and you are a pro at maintaining all of your water parameters. In the mean time, read everything you can get your hands on about getting started, proper reef care, and reef chemistry.

I'm going to bed. Good night!

Cyclopeeze is a nutrient dense food that is comprised of dried microcrustaceans and one of my flake foods contains some spirulina. I'm not familiar with phytoplex, reef solutions, or bime. I never used any of those to my knowledge.
The BioCube is an "all-in-one" design.
You will probably be able to keep a derasa clam down the road when you are really good at keeping all of your water parameters like calcium and alkalinity where they need to be.
The lighting is sufficient because it is a small tank and all of the corals will be relatively close to the light regardless of where they are placed.

Oh sorry. I never used a filter at all. I have only used the live rock and sand as the filter since I started the tank.

Just dont want this to slip by w/o anyone mentioning it. I have the BioCube 29, its awesome I love it. If I was looking right now for a tank however I would seriously consider the new JBJ nano I think its called. I totally agree with Bang on the filter situation aside of keeping the bio balls where they are I have the exact set up and although my tank isnt as nearly as established as his it is doing great. But the one thing I love about the new Nano is it has those options if you wanted them. Skimmer, Refugium, Better power head with a split nozzel and the best part IMO is the 150W HQI's. I just thought it was smart to incorporate all of what peoples modifications are to one tank. Its def more money though I think $ 650.00 or so, my Bio Cube was 299.00. Dont know if that helps you at all but I stumbled upon it in here somewhere and wanted to mention it.

Hey Bone,
Quick question, do you favor a certain type of test kit for your water. I have been looking at them and although my LFS sells the "ReefMaster" test kit by Instant Ocean I know to a point I am paying for the name. I am also paying for something else because its $100.00 for the kit YIKES, I just dont know what that something else is. :notsure:
Any way I did find it alot cheaper in another place $60.00 but Aquarium Pharmaceuticals has one that has the same tests and is only $20.00. In my experience you get what you pay for however I know you can go over borard. I am just looking for your input if you have any. Alot on here say the Salifert sold here is best. But I dont see an all in one kit, that can add up in the long run. But then I am thinking I can replace them on an as needed basis and not have to buy the whole kit over again. Thanks for your help.

I use Salifert and it is worth the money. You pay for quality and accuracy and Salifert has both. The prices of the Salifert kits here on saltwaterfish.com are very reasonable when compared to other online dealers.
The only ones you really need by Salifert are alkalinity and calcium, if you need the rest: nitrate, pH, and phosphate those are relatively cheap by Salifert and you may as well buy the best when there is only a couple of dollars difference.
Down the road when you get into SPS and clams you may want to check magnesium concentrations, but that is not an essential test until much later. In fact, my first Salifert magnesium test kit is in the mail as we speak.
