BTA Confusing me

OK, anyone who reads these boards knows I have trouble keeping anemones, BUT my BTA is going on 3 weeks now

Although it is confusing me....for the past 3 days in a row it has shriveled up...(I will say everytime this happens I get nervous)...Then it fills up really big...base and all..I can not get a pic, it is in an awkward position and I am not touching it.
Does it sound like anything that anyone may recognize as either normal or abnormal???
BTW...For once...all my water is excellent...

Mine does this once a day. Just expelling waste. Then it abosorbs all the new water back into its system and stands tall and proud. If it stays deflated then you worry but it sounds like everything is ok to me.

Great, I did alot research using that site before getting my Condi's, good luck with your BTA's, FYI just make sure they are getting enough to eat, I feed mine raw shrimp, if they don't want it they'll spit it out

Thanks...I've never had one last very long, so I didn't know this was a daily thing...

It really shouldnt be. Some sites will say that its normal, but it is not. If an anemone is expelling every day, something is wrong. What might that something be?? Good question. It could be many different things. Often a sign of over eating, or being feed meals that are too large. Also signs of poor water quality. (they expel bad water with hopes of filling with good water. If that water isnt much better, then they will expel again).

Well it's doubtful that it's the water quality...this is the best it has ever been...I have only fed it every couple of days, and of course have no control over what it takes from the water...I only fed it a small silverside once...and mysis the other times...
Right now it looks happy....

I was just commenting on the fact that its not normal/natural for them to expel everyday, and also threw possible causes out there. There could me many. I do have my suspicions though.

I disagree. I am not saying there can't be something wrong. There would be other signs. Moving, tentacles not sticky, not feeding on light or food, bleaching. A healthy anemone can expel everyday. From what I have observed different species behave differently. My LTA will go days without expelling(unless it does it in the middle of the night). My BTA does it most everyday. From the information that is out there you cannot draw the conclusion that something is always wrong with an anemone because of this behavior.

I agree that it is not normal for them to expel waste everyday. Mine have always been well fed and will expel approximately once a week. I have noticed that a couple of mine will shrink considerably late each evening, some will retract to behind the rockwork where they are attached. They stay that way until sun up next day. I would consider this retraction very normal. It is hard to say if Meowzer's shriveling is the same as mine retracting without seeing it. I would say mine shrink to about 1/2 the size regularly at night, when they expel waste they shrink down to nothing, like an empty balloon.

Hey I have been wondering where you have been...It has been full all day today....well it was full when I left this morning and still when I got home tonight...It is in such an odd place I can't get a pic of it...when it shrinks it still has some base....it doesn't go totally flat...but the tentacles lose their fullness.

If it's full during the day and deflating a bit at night, then I would not worry. Maybe you're worring too much.

Well it's good to observe it's behavior, that way you will notice when something is amiss. You have good reason to react the way you do, I know your not cuckoo.
Wait a minute hmmm.... I think I am cuckoo so never mind you just may be too.
My sister asks me what's new, I tell her about my new clowns budding relationship, my anemone has split, my tank cycling and the algea problem I am having etc... As she rolls her eyes.
See I told you. That is why I need my dialy dose of the forums.
