What the potheads/pro-marijuana crowd aren't getting, is that this is a debate about legalizing marijuana. Not a tale about the horrors of alcohol or tobacco (read back to see how many times they've been mentioned already
). This is about changing an illegal good, to a legal one. There needs to be solid reasons why people should vote to legalize pot, other then saying it's none of my business what you do and it doesn't effect me.
I am sure most of us would like to see the speed limits increased. I could just as easily say as long as I'm fully in control of my car and not a threat to anyone, how fast I go and how much gas I use is no one's business either... But we all know how likely raised limits would be...
It's hard to say, but if I was brought up where alcohol and tobacco were illegal, I would say I'd side with keeping them illegal, just like marijuana. However since they are not, I always fall back to I can sit down at dinner, enjoy a Carlsberg Elephant, or Grlosh and be fine. There is no point to smoking pot, other than to 'get high.' I personally never enjoy drinking to the point of becoming 'wasted.'
I am sure to see many replies about the use of medical marijuana, but this is about legalizing for personal use, not medical. I am all for regulated medical marijuana. For people who would actually gain benefit from its use, and not a pothead thinking he can play the system.
Or replies regardling the many wonderful usefulness use of hemp
. The thing that catches my attention is this similar push for hemp, 99.9% of the time, by the same pro-marijuana crowd. Sure, hemp can be used in ropes and some fabrics.... Terrific
. Are these people really that considered about the textile industry they love pushing hemp that much? We've all read that hemp as a low THC count and therefore useless as pot. So why the push? Hemp is far from a miracle product. Sure, as rope and fabrics its better then some options but definitely not the best.
I never used pot just to 'get high'. When I smoked, I could get the same feeling and sensations from smoking one joint as I would by drinking 2 or 3 beers. It actually depended on the 'brand' of weed and its strength. I 'toked' on occasion during my high school and college years. In high school, I did the typical cruising, and we'd always end up at the local KMart parking lot. There were just nights where I didn't feel like drinking alcohol, so I'd just 'take a hit' when the joint came around. Same thing in college when I went to parties. The benefit was I didn't wake up with a wicked hangover or ever have to go hug the 'porcelain God' after smoking. The effects also wore off ALOT faster than from drinking. I've heard the stories of people getting addicted to the 'drug' and having worse side effects than drinking alcohol. However, those were the exceptions instead of the norm. It's been over 25 years since I've 'taken a hit' (I have had the opportunity to obtain second-hand smoke at a few rock concerts), and I've never had the desire to try and obtain it.
