Do you run a chiller on all your tanks????
No, we actually don't have one running on anything right now. We had bought a used unit a while back for the 155, but it did not work properly. My husband thinks that it was out of the cooling stuff (such a technical term, I know, LOL) and we couldn't find anyone that would fix it so the guy gave us back our money.
I would like to run one on the 14G, so it doesn't get so hot with the halide over it.

Well I have the one on the 28G and that is it.....I'd go broke if I had to buy chillers for the rest LOL...The window unit helps keep the fish room cool enough
I had to put it in today...it has been in the 80's here LOL

My chiller experience is they really don't have to work too hard to bring down the temp only 2 or 3 deg, so I buy one on the smaller size than suggested. Mine just barely makes a humm, and the stock fan for it sounded like a small jet engine, so I disconnected it and bought a cheep desk fan and wired it into the circuit so when the chiller compressor comes on, the fan does too.
My problem is with 4 tanks now in the dining room totalling 800 gallons and soon to be 4000 watts of MH light, the central airconditioner is already running ALOT on an 80 deg day.....remember that any refridgerant based chiller will heat the room its in quite a bit, cause I have 3 chillers, and get them all running with the lights, the AC unit runs non stop to keep that room at 78....Am going to look into the window unit idea real hard real soon. My chillers only run for 3-4 hours/day in the late afternoon when outside temps get hotter than 85 and nites dont fall below 70. (so they just started kicking on and will cycle like that till October)..
Tank temps all set at 80 deg.....but when one kicks on, u can tell immediatley that the room starts running warmer real quick. The ac unit controller is in the dinning room too, so that room is like 78, but the bedrooms are like 68, requirig blankets in August! gotta move that thing too...
so save some $$ for a window unit if u get a chiller.

Looks like a nice chiller......IDK about the gph though......Ithink a lot has to do with height and all that.....you know like with sumps.....where does it have to pump to...

The mfg's base flow rate in chillers based on the ideal effeciency of the little units evaporator coils...for this paticular unit, any flow thru the unit from 400 - 800 gph will allow for sufficient heat transfer from the water to the expanding freon within the closed loop inside the unit - and best effeciency.....More flow or less than suggested will just cause the unit to work more. Also remember to shut it off if doing a waterchange or maintenance on the tank....I had my one of my tanks shut down for 45 minutes one time a long time ago, and the chiller kicked on while I was out of the room, and within 10 minutes - it froze the water in the heat exchanger and cracked it - then I had a nice water leak that took a while to figure out, and longer to repair....luckily the heat exchanger was large dia PVC pipe so i was able to glue a patch over the crack.....some chllers have an internal temp switch to prevent this, most do not.

i am going to order this chiller this week.i figure i would email the manufactuer on pump size.i have a question though.my sump flow is slow ,i dont think it would work to cycle the cooler water in there.how is your set up?i figure i will have to add a return to the dt and some kind of set up where the drain side is a pipe into the dt with a gaurd cover on it?not sure how to set this thing up?

On my reef - the chiller is inline with a pentair aquatics setup behind the tank- water is pumped with a quiet one 4000 pump, from the sump / thru the pump / thru the pentair aquatics filter units / thru the chiller / up to tank return. On the folwr tanks - I run water thru the chiller first, then into sump/fuge / then pumped back to tanks with submersable pumps. It does not matter where in line the chiller unit is, it could even have it's own closed loop (circuit) where water comes out of main, goes thru chiller, and gets pumped back into tank.
Somthing like this on the reef tank: from left to right - pump; pentair units, thru chiller and up to tank return

This is just the top of the chiller in/out

i thought my wall looked bad.i only run about a 700 gph through my sump.i am not sure if i could run a closed system through my sump.i might have to run it from the dt.i would rater not so i dont see the pipes in the tank.i have to think about it.i was also thinking about putting my bigger overflow and little giant pump back on this tank.but it will add more flow and noise to the sump.i have to think about it .

ARGH! the edit function is still broke>
In the top pic - the vertical pvc in the forground/bottom is the return to tank from chiller. In the bottom pic, the right pvc line on top of the chiller is the inlet, the left one is the outlet, and is the same line as the vertical pvc piece mentioned first.

LOL - yeah - it's been 3 or 4 years since this tank had been pulled away and all that crap cleaned - no more than 5 years though! lol
You can always split the return water with a T and a ball valve to vary output flows - and run 1/2 the water thru the chiller and the other 1/2 straight to the tank return.

The noise level produced by chillers is a function of their capacity and the quality of the unit.
The cheaper chillers tend to be louder, but a loud chiller does not necessarily mean a cheap one either. Aqua Logic chillers are some of the best chillers made, but they are by no means the quietest.
They do not produce condensation because the evaporator coil - where the condensation come from - is immersed in the tank water.

We just picked up our Aqua Logic 1/3 hp (I think, it might be 1/2 have to check with the hubby) and it's not too bad. The sound reminds me of a window unit AC.

aquaeuro got back with 590 gph but no more than 795.
so that was easy.i plan to order next week sometime.
my system has had more upgrades in the last couple months than it did in the last ten years.
