Alix,
It seems as though this is now a political thread. Bash away.
I voted for him twice and would gladly do so again. Given the choices I am left with this election, I may not vote at all.
As for the botched anthem...
We are guests in their country. If they choose to disrespect us that is their prerogative although I disagree with doing so. We should be mature enough to accept our medals as measure of our performance and leave it at that. Are we no better than they?

I tend to look the other way with official olympic events. Most of the individuals involved have enough sense to keep the politics out of it. I would guess it was a mistake. How many different anthems do those poor guys have to learn

Aren't the national anthems just prerecorded tapes? Thats what I assumed but it would be pretty cool if they had live music...

I assumed they were playing it live but now that I think about it thats doubtful. Too much time needed to set up.

I don't know, just assumed it was taped which makes it hard to believe they would have a poorly done recording on tape... They had to figure the US would win atleast 1 medal and thought ahead to practice, (atleast for the major contenders)

Not that I enjoy defending the Chinese but actually I thought the Anthems were provided (as taped renditions) by the GUEST COUNTRY.
If it was messed up it's probably not the fault of the Chinese. I would point the finger at the U.S. Olympic Comittee because they probably approved the rendition.

So have they fixed the issue in subsequent events? I imagine there has been atleast one other ceremony where the US won a gold.

I do remember that, you're right. I don't have an explaination why it was later mangled but you're right about it being just fine before that.
side note - hey, what's up with the ear piercing scream and the clenched fist at the end of each point in fencing? It looks and sounds rediculous. Did the coach teach them that?

Actually I'm an independent. Very moderate, slightly lean to the right probably because of my southern baptist, conservative upbringing. Oh, by the way, I meant that as sarcasm. But hey, just like your "joke" we misunderstood each other. Gotta love the lack of expression and tone of voice within text over the internet.
I sincerely apologize for turning this thread into another toilet.

No, Kharma Chameleon is much better. At least he dared to be himself regardless of how unpopular his persona was/is to the mainstream.
