Controversial threads should be banned

the abusive posters- not the threads or topics- should be dealt with.
i belong to several other message boards, where there are no language or topic restrictions. everybody gets along, and there are heated topics, but those posters that go out of bounds get dealt with.
if you dont like the topic, or the way its being debated, or what is being said, stay out of the thread.
simple as that.

Personally, I think doing something like that is just the same as one of those pyros in California who started one of the fires that destroyed thousand's of homes. Salty lit the match, and sat back and watched it burn into a firestorm.
If the mods want to control the heated off-topics here, cut them off before they start. You're intelligent people, and know what topics will set off the various members here. I know this 'The Aquarium' board is meant for open topics not related to the saltwater hobby. However, if you want to start controversial threads, post a link to that kind of topic on MySpace, Facebook, or wherever there's a spot for blogs like that. Keep letting them start here will end up causing resentment and hatred towards members. Then when someone really needs help with their tanks, the person who has the knowledge to help that person will blow them off. "I'm not helping that person. He's Pro Choice and a baby killer. Let his tank die for all I care."
Well, the thread wasn't locked because of anything I said because I never posted. But as I recall, you made several comments. Perhaps you should put me on your "ignore" list.

On a more serious note, everyone here seems to still respect other people even though they don't have the same views on everything. Its one of the principals that this country is supposed to be built on, the 'melting pot' so to speak of different types of people and ideas. Easily enough if you don't like the thread rather than say i should be banned, just don't read it.

How do you know what you like/don't like if you don't read it? Everyone here is adults or teenagers (that post), and you should be able to control you tempers by now and know that in certain topics are very sensitive and how to deal with them. If you can't read something you don't agree with, and respond in a clean, respectful way, you should consider some help or at least a self evaluation. Maybe the internet isn't for you...

i think that we whould be able to leave feedback.....ok take for example i play video games online alot and if you play with someone that is mean or what not you can leave feedback about that person....such as if he was cussing or something you can leave feed back about that.....does anyone else think this is a good idea ?

As has been pointed out on this thread, "controversial threads" is in the eyes of the poster. What offends one person will not offend another.
Mods do not, nor have we ever, had the power to ban. We point out to Admin "problem" posters and admin reviews and makes the call.
Avoiding contraversial threads is as simple as not replying and moving on. I don't see us changing the way we Moderate here to accomodate this idea.

The world doesn't operate in an environment that only contains rosy, feel good topics. This is the real world where people are allowed to disagree or agree, debate or ignore. This is also the real world where social misfits are removed from society and healthy debates are encouraged. The idea isn't to get everyone to think the same way, the idea is to get everyone to understand how others think so they have more information and insight into their own thoughts.

It is only offensive since you picked the wrong team.

People MUST share my belief because I am correct.

If only I could find a reason to do-so.

Hate never convinced anyone about how right you are, only that you can "hate". Have we not learned that big lesson in the past few years? I don't believe in abortion either, yet the issue is hardly black and white for women (and even children) who are faced with unplanned pregnancies.
If topics can remain civil, even though controversial, then the exchange of ideas and beliefs among our fellow fish tank friends is a good thing. Once a topic turns belligerent or pointless, then it will be shut down. Our hope is that the Aquarium can offer conversations that appeal to everyone, and not just a place where we can play word games, share plans for upcoming vacations, discuss 360 vs ps3, etc. (not that there is anything wrong with talking about that too
)

I guess I can 'sort of' share you belief since there are a lot of ex-ravens on your team now(aderson, lewis..)
See how easy that was

You MUST share my beliefs, because they are right!
I suppose I should like the Ravens since the whole team is ex-Browns...
You can say Jamal Lewis is an ex-Raven but I don't think Anderson counts since he was released right away...
