Coral

I'm in the process of cycling my new 29 gallon tank, once my tank is cycled I wanted to add some coral, and a fish or two. I was looking for lighting, but i'm partially clueless to what to get. I have heard that LED lights are the way to go, expensive at first, but cheap in the long run. I was looking at this light https://www.saltwaterfish.com/Marineland-Reef-Capable-LED-Light-24quot--36quot_p_5066.html. Would that light work, and if so, what coral and how much could I put in my tank?

How about a frogspawn or hammer? Look them up they are beautiful **Please don't post links to competitor sites**

Yeah, but the frogspawn stings so it needs ample space between other corals the hammer needs moderate care, but if the water quality is fine, so will the coral.

Or a candy cane coral these are easy to take care of because they are hardy, and under the light you chose they will glow!

oooo, thats awesome :), I'll have to look into it, I have a smaller tank (29 gallon) so I don't know how frogspawn would work.

You could just arrange your live rock just right so that where you place him he can't reach anyone. Like put a rock between him and another coral

I was interested in those LEDs in the beginning as well but was advised by people on this site that they are not very good actually. For your 29 gallon tank I highly recommend you take a look at Ecoexotic's Panorama LED moduels. I have 2 on my 40 gallon tank and all my corals are doing great, even my 4 SPS pieces.
For actual corals to start out with... a Frogspawn would be great... my first corals were a Frogspawn, a colony of button polyps, and a small clump of Green Star Polyps and they are all happy and thriving to this day.

Would one of those led lights be sufficient for my tank, or should I get two?
If your goin' with LEDs and spending the money anyways, I've heard much better reviews from people usin' the Aqua Illumination lights.

The ecoxotic lights are definatly in my price range, only problem is, there is a lot of different ones, which one should i get, or does it not matter all that much?

Ok, I have decided once my tank is cycled, I want to get a stalk of hammer coral, a 5 pack of green ricordea, and 2 clownfish. Would this be to much for my tank, or would it be all ok? I'm still up in the air about the lighting, I'm really leaning towards the ecoxtoic led light, but would I need more than one?

You will want the combo light... the white & blue one. The white diodes will sustain the corals while the blue diodes will make them glow. If you want them to glow brighter, you can add a blue or magenta stunner strip.

Well, if you have 2 Ecoexotic Panorama combo modules in your 29 gallon tank there will be no limit to the kinds of corals you can keep. I currently have 4 SPS pieces and they are doing well so since your tank is 11 gallons smaller than mine I'd imagine they'd do even better in yours if placed in the right spot.
Also, keep in mind that Hammers sting just like Frogspawn do... but since Hammers and Frogspawn come from the same family, you can have both close together and they won't attack each other. But also you only need a few inches of space to keep other corals out of their reach, so spacing is not really that bad of an issue as people make it out to be. Heck, you might get lucky like me, for some reason my Frogspawn doesn't mind if other corals are next to it... hasn't stung anything even thouth some thing are only 1 inch away from it.

Ok, I am only getting 3 or 4 corals to start, and probably will stay that way for a while, could I just use one light for now?

Yeah you will do fine with just 1... when/if you want more light sensitive corals, just add as second light and you should be golden :)
