When I was diving I saw probaly a 7 foot green moray pop out of a whole and eat a 7-10 inch spanish hog I was trying to catch. Biggest eel Ive ever seen and probaly the most aggresive.

Green Moray Eel if sharks don't count.
lol, stop spreading rumors, that's simply not true

Hope that didn't come off as mean but, The aggressive level of green morays is just wayyy over exaggerated.

yes I do have a barracuda, and when he gets too big for me, ill try to take him to the lfs, or bring him back to the ocean where i got him.
Please do not take it back to the ocean you can introduce pathogens that the fish in your area may not be able to defend themsevles from cause a major problem if you cant house it and the LFS wont take humanly uthenise it.

I've never had that happen with a Green moray, whats so ever.
As a matter of fact, actually the multitude of Tessies I have raised, are on a average, more aggressive than the green moray.

Which green moray, Gymnothorax castenatus
or Gymnothorax funebris
? They've earned the nickname diver chasers for a reason...

In all my years of diving here in Florida from Pensacola to Key West, the most aggresive fish that I have ever encountered has to be Damsels.
No, they won't rip you to shreds, but they are the most territorially aggressive, swim out and bite you, scared of nothing fish I have ever seen. Don't know the name, but they are about 3-4" long, black front/white tail.
I have accidentaly come face to face, literally inches, with very large green morays that scared the poo out of me but never struck. I have had 1 barracuda out of maybe 10,000 that I have been under with that took a swipe at me.
But those freakin' damsels will take a shot at you every time. Pound for pound the most aggressive IMHO.

Yes I always have to say damsels as well. Schools of convict tangs can be quite aggressive when they are feeding. No one has mentioned Bull sharks. Crazy they are. Regards, Tim

By green moray I mean the usual Gymnothorax funebris. Sure they may be aggressive but aggressive is in the eye of the beholder. Sure they might be named "diver chasers" but from experience I know that they are way more curious than they are blood thirsty. You wont here of divers ripped limb from limb lying on the ocean floor from a Gymnothorax funebris, In fact I've heard of more people losing limbs from a Diodon Holocanthus

I have to agree with the damsels. My triggers pay no attention to me when i have my hand in the tank, my hawk runs, but the domino damsel attacks my fingers everytime.

The only fish that has ever attacked my hand while in the tank was a SMALL GS maroon clown. He also killed a Niger trigger that was twice his size.

One of the LFS here has a Giant Hawkfish named spanky thats about 14" (He is the store pet and a really awesome fish I want him so bad I pet him and hand feed him every time I am in there). They sold him 3 times and he has come back every time because he kills everything he put in with, his casualty list includes a 2.5' green morray,a 2' wolf eel , a 10" niger trigger, a 10" bursa trigger, a 14"clown trigger, a 2' saddleback grouper, a 18" panther, a football sized puffer(either a dogface or porcupine don't remember), and 2' bambo shark (he keeps this list to show people why he will not sell him). I don't know if spanky is abnormally aggressive or if all giant hawkfishes are like that?

Oh my god! He ATE an eel?? I have to go google image seach and see what a giant hawkfish looks like, no idea they could get that big!

I have never seen one so big, would love to see picts of him. I would stand in awe of a fish with his casualty rate.

Most aggressive fish I have ever owned....Believe it or not Maroon Clown (the Undy in my avatar I only feed when the owner was out of town)....Most aggressive i have seen would be a 20 inch Queen Trigger, at least of commonly seen fish in the hobby.

Mike - the Denver Zoo and the Denver Aquarium used to have Queen triggers that were at least 24" from tip to tail. I would estimate their width to be close to be 3-4".
Her teeth were HUGE! It just paced in the tank and NO fish ever came within 10ft of it.
I can only assume that they got too aggressive with their tank mates as they have both been missing this year.
I would kill to own a queen trigger that big :)
