Cyclop-eez question

I bought some today but, it doesn't say how to feed it. It's just kind of orange powdery stuff. How do you feed it?

Mix some up in a cup of water and pour it into the tank.
I would turn off the pumps and skimmer since it's a free-floating product that needs to hang in the water column for a little while.
Good stuff.

I just started to try this stuff too....but who is it for??? Fish, or What? LOL
It looks like cheeze balls if you ask me. Mine is kinda clumpy. Is it supposed to be that way?

Mine is kind of clumpy too. Are we supposed to add it to other food or just feed it only? I thought there would be some instructions on there somewhere. I remembered the just use a little bit part but, I'm not sure how to define that. Do the corals and the fish like it? or just corals or just fish?

I use a syringe to target feed some corals, then pour the rest in the tank. My fish go crazy, they are green chromis damsels, clownfish, and a sailfin tang. So do hermits, worms, etc. I have the frozen "stick", cut off a dime sized piece or so, and let it thaw in water, then in it goes.

I don't like the powder type at all.
Frozen is easy to feed and it disolves in water instantly. Fish and corals both love the frozen variety in my tank......especially the Chromis and Anthias.

Hopefully a local vendor will start to carry the frozen type soon...I've heard numerous positive comments about the product but nobody I do business with has it yet.

Cyclop Eeze claims that there is no difference nutritionally between the frozen and freeze dried. I have the freeze dried because it is easier. My fish go crazy and all of my coral/polyps and inverts go crazy. They only thing I know that does not eat it are clams and bi-valves. The stuff is too big for them.
Great stuff though.

One thing that I know is that my big clam loves the stuff.....I can literally watch as the clam pulls in the cyclop-eeze through it's incurrent syphon and then close down to eat it. This is the frozen variety though.......if there's a difference.

I will have to find what the actuall size it, but Knop and other so called clams experts say it is too big for clams to digest. Although they will necessarily take it in, when the clam closes, it is likely closing because it is trying to spit it out or is having some troubles with it. I will try to find the info I read about it though.
Found this quote, I will have to research and find the justifications for it though.
"Clams cannot "eat" Cyclop-Eeze because they are 800 microns each, which is 50 to 100 larger than their appropriate food. They may, or may not, be able to do something with the smallest particles in the smallest size blend of Golden Pearls (5-50 micron size). D.T.'s live phytoplankton is ideal as it is a blend of three different phytos in the appropriate size range. "
Quote is from Ninong at clamsdirect.

I guess I am writing in this thread about a year after it was started, but I have a question also.
I feed the orange cheeseball looking powdery stuff as well. How often in a week should I put it in the tank?
Also, I've been told to use very small amounts. For a 60 gallon tank, what would be the ideal amount for each feeding?
Thanks

hard to specifically answer your questions. I prefer the frozen type...been using it weekly for about a year now. I shave off a relatively small amount and let it spread thru the system...normally I'll shut down the skimmer when I add it cause it tends to make my skimmer go nuts. I'd think the dry type could be used in the same manner. How much would depend on what you keep and the size of your system. I do believe it is a good product and numerous corals/crabs/shrimp/fish seem to feed whenever its in the water column.

In that case I'd suggest a relatively small amount now and then...any feeding to excess could contribute to problems...but a decent amount on a regular basis shouldn't be too bad.

I've been feeding 1/4 tsp twice a week in my 55g... not sure how much it is helping yet but I haven't seen an increase in nutrients.
In the 110g I've been feeding 1/4 tsp cyclop and 1/4 tsp golden pearl... with about the same results.
