Last night I checked it and it was like 1.027-1.028 which is way random. The dude at the LFS said 15 mins so thats what I did. Obviously the sg could have easily killed it but I think something was wrong with it to begin with.

Found out the coral banded had just arrived and should not have been sold the day I bought it. Cool thing is that I am going to get a new one at no charge. Hopefully get that taken care of today or tomorrow. I also am going to add a few more assorted snails to clean up some algae on some of the rocks. Somehow the blue damsel has thrived through the last rocky week. He eats like a champ and is not as darty and sketchy as some other damsels I have had. Still thinking about waiting till after AL trip in two weeks to get corals. Tonight I will hopefully have time to check parameters and post pics. Been working like crazy which is good but tiring.

Looks awesome dude, i see you got some Koralias and the surface skimmmer.. Also is there enough room between the rock and glass on the sides to clean?

Yea there is room. But I may swap some rock from my 60g so that I can eventually have more places to place coral. I really like the rock now but I'm not sure if it will be conducive to placing corals. With the rio 6hf and the surface skimmer the tank's gonna stay super clean. If I start getting brown algae will turbos eat that stuff? Or what else would you reccomend?

the brown alge is a Diatom Bloom, its a good sigh.. Means your cycle almost complete, and really any snails would clean it up, but turbos are good to have..
What do u plan for your CUC?

Cerith, nass, couple turbos. NOt sure if I am getting store credit on that shrimp or if i can just get another one. IF he lets me I'll just use the credit for the snails but if I can only get another coral banded than I'll take that and hope for the best.

It's been four weeks today. I'll check parameters after work (hopefully I keep saying that) and then see if I can make it to the place where I got the shrimp. Do you know how many snails you have in your 24g? I heard about 1 per gallon is good (obviously not with turbos or really big snails of course)

i got about 30 snails.. 2 turbos, 10 Nass, 10 Certh and about 10 Astrea
Hold off on the shimp maybe about a week.. make sure your CUC stays alive 1st hehe

There is a blue damsel and about 5 nass and a few cerith in there already. A couple cerith died when the salt skyrocketed but the rest is fine. If the lfs lets me wait on the return than I will. Do you supplement their diet or do they just scavenge? I've got to say again after looking at some of your new pics that your tank is phenomenal. Especially because you are so new to the hobby (7 months or whatever it is ). I bet a bunch of oldies are mad jealous. What was the first fish you put in your 24g?

I just set up a 24 gallon nano, almost two weeks ago. I've been reading your posts to try and anticipate what I am going to encounter.
My tank is set up with 26 lbs of fijian cured live rock
20 lbs of live sand
I have a blue damsel
5 small hermit crabs
and 3 turbo snails.
Last night I got a refractometer and test kit; and added a Koralia
I got the same tan diatom algae bloom about 5 days ago; after which I added the initial CUC occupants to try and hold it to a minimum. Its not as prevalant now but still obvious.
As of last night my readings are 1.022 SG; 7.8 ph and 0 nitrate.
Ran out of time to check the other readings.....
added some ph buffer and more salt water in lieu of fresh water to get the level back up from evap. Should I add salt directly, or slowly increase it with more salt water?

slowly increase with saltwater.. never add salt directly to the tank.
Over time water will evaoprate, you u will need to top off. So just top off with SW

Unless there is nothing in your tank you don't want to add just salt. I have added a solution of a little stronger salt water but you never want to do it too fast or you can harm your inhabitants. With more salt your ph should rise as well. When my sg was low so was my ph. Now its right on the money.
Tonight I added 3 nass, 4 cerith, 3 turbos, and a cleaner shrimp. Hopefully they get to work on the tank. The cleaner and damsel were flirting and hopefully will hook up so I can see Jaques in action. Took my chaeto out of the cup today and set the chamber light on a different timer than my regular lights. Also redirected some flow with the koralias. I think vermetid snails are causing the spider web stuff so I'm going to look into those to figure out proper action. All levels are good except for phosphate is a tad high. If it is still high in two weeks I may opt for some phosban, not sure yet.

you 1st waterchange after your cycle should help with the phosphates.. Do you have purigen? that should help with the phos too
