Greg - I havent really done much to it yet but the background makes a world of difference in person. Im about to paint my display tank too - the plastic backgrounds suck in comparison. I'm also happy with the new cheato holder and frag rack, but still trying to think up a clever way to corner a section for mushroom propogation. I'm thinking of making some sort of cage for the sandbed but unsure what to use as of right now.
Nietzsche - I think the color difference of a tanks background is negligible when it comes to coral growth. I suppose it would visually brighten the tank to a certain degree, but I think the contrast of color from the color of the corals against the black background looks better anyway.

Well, I got home from work today and discovered my little clown goby is UA. I'm not really sure where he could've gone, there are no filters to get sucked in, overflows, rockwork work, or agressive CUC and he's not a registered carpet surfer... The tank is open top but I dont even think that stubby little guy could jump if he wanted to.

Well, I still cant decide on what kind of flow to go with in this tank. As it stands I've got a 350 HOB rated at 350gph (go figure)... I want to add powerheads and I'm either going with MajiJet 900-1200 or I'm going to try a Hydor Koralia. Not sure what model Koralia to go with since I've heard the #1 is somewhat weak, but it is rated at 400 gph. Anyone have any experience with these in a small tank?

Would he have barried himself in the sand? I hope he shows himself soon.

Thanks guys/gals... I dont think they burrow AZ. I know some gobies do but these guys usually come out during the day and perch on corals and rockwork. He's still MIA.

Oh, I also decided on getting a Hydor Koralia #1 for this tank and a #2 for my display tank. Pending the final tests of the pumps I may end up flip flopping which tank they go in.

Oh and a big thanks goes out to AZ for helping me decide that. I know it seems like a small decision, but crap like that always makes me rack my brain and study up for hours. My wife hates it.

That is really weird that your little goby would just disapear like that. You don't have any hermits in there do you?
I understand about racking your brain on what equipment to get. I did the same thing, drove my husband nuts!
My lights were the toughest part, but thank God I'm all done with all that.

I dont have any hermits in there at all... Just 6 tiny Nassarius snails and an Astrea.
I was really bad about picking out lighting too when I was trying to decide between the Nova Extreme T5 lights and the Current PC's for my display tank. I went with the T5's but the funny thing is, when I bought this tank Greg had the PC fixture on it. I guess I'll eventually be able to tell which is the better fixture and I cant count the ammount of time I spent trying to figure that one out.
I honestly dont think the difference will be all that drastic - the major difference I see is the life of the bulbs and Wattage used to drive the PC's is slightly greater.

Are you talking about the nassarius I have pictured? These little guys arent bad at all. They are great additions to your clean up crew. They stay buried most of the time and come out when they smell food. Good sand shifters in my opinion.

I agree.
I use it as a "show" to friends. I tell them to watch the sand closely. Drop in a few pellets and it becomes the attack of the snails. It's funny to see their reaction.

Yeah it is pretty funny. Looks like night of the living dead in your tank. I think its incredible that they will surface even with the slightest ammount of food added.

Which is why I'm not worried about any uneaten food. Not when you have nassarius snails.
