Diamond Goby on floor...

I am still in shock! Yesterday I was reading in a fish mag on how to prep your tank for a vacation... and try to factor in everything that can go wrong. This was NOT one of them! I found my Diamond goby on the ground in front of the tank this morning. He couldnt have been out for more than 2 minutes but he was stunned. He is moving around now but not back to himself yet. I hope he will be okay!

Hes still slowly moving around the tank. Not doing anything at all. Poor guy he was such a character! Hes not gasping but you can barely see him breathing, I think hes dying

Just leave him be. If he's made it this long, he has a decent chance.

with glass, it's not just temp..it's also oxygen exchange (or something like that)
eggcrate (lighting diffuser) is available at Home Depot, and is pretty cheap

egg crate is better due to oxygen exchange, heat, and glass still won't work around any piece of equipment you may have to work around.
I've seen gobies jump through the least bit of opening.

I have had one jump through eggcrtate/diffuser holes. Now I have two layers of egg crate off set to make the holes 1/2 the original size.

YUP ....me too...but eggcrate is better than nothing (or glass)...you could also add that pond netting....the holes are a little smaller

He was still alive as of last night have not been able to find him this morning. We have a large rock in the tank that he burrows under, I know hes under there just wether or not he is alive or not... He really didnt look good last night
can someone add a pic of their egg crate? I have NO idea how to do this and If I see a pic it might be easier. We had just two pieces of glass on there just to stop the light from falling in if it got hit or something and the glass was the only thing I had at the moment. My local guy doesnt believe in covering the tank so I needs yalls advice please

I hope your Goby is OK.
Here's what is being discussed. I have it on all my tanks and below the eggcrate I have a smaller black grid that you can also get from Lowes.

In this pic you can see the black smaller holed material on the little cube tank in the foreground.

Hope that helps.

I'm truly sorry to hear this. Remember, they can (I had one do it), jump through the egg crate. Lowe's also has a net type material and you can double it over or buy the smaller black type to go over or under the white egg crate and you won't have jumpers escaping again.

If it makes you feel any better (actually it will not) I have had 7 of them jump. My first two dies of unatural/natural causes in a months time. 1 jumped and I think broke his back against the hard top. The second jumped "out" of my storage bin when in hypo. Who would have thought a goby could make it up and over a 12/14" wall of air? 1 jumped into my overflow and died of afixation from the water preassure against my drain pipes. I thought that was a fluke, got another one and it did the same thing. I made sure any fish that did that again would safley make it to the filter sock. All was fine with the next one, for 2 hours and jumped out the back of my tank. I leanred to cover the top but had a small hole in the back, thats when another one jumped through that. Okay, so, I covered the back to and the newest goby jumped through the "less than" 1/4" netting. I was like, WTF!?!?!?
I am now on goby #? with the top on as tight as a drum and very very fine mesh on top. Figures, he stays on the bottom no matter who chases him
