Dieing brain

I hate to tell you this but I read an article in Fish magazine that when they start showing signs of dieing it is too late. In my experience that is true. It suggested that most die from some type of infection.

I will second or third this. Some of the live rock I bought for my tank started to show life after 2 months in my tank.
One of which would be this coral. A type of brain (favites). Two different colinies I might add.

The other one is an orange zoa. It is pretty cool to just all of a sudden see a coral you didn't put in the tank just show up.

I had one just like that in one of my aquapods...the large coral died but I kept the skeleton in the tank because it had a few intersting small creatures on it...4 months ago I noticed to 1 inch diameter babies growing on the side of the skeleton...they have since doubled in size and are a much prettier red color...glad I didn't send it to the coral graveyard in the back lot

Yes, You must clean them once in a while.

Glad you got it all back together and working strong.
Should be building up skum in a short while.

IMO, the inside of pumps should be cleaned monthly, any pump. The actual body of the skimmer though is different. About every three months??? Maybe six.

Yea, I always interperated(sp (my hands aren't working to well right now)) to only clean the skimmer body every six months. All pumps should be cleaned every month though.

On the skimmer body it will set you back a bit each time. They usually need to devlop a skum layer to start to work more efficently. The foam is able to climb into the cup better.

Put some fake flowers in front of it then. That way when you show off your equipment it wont be so noticable. Beshides, isn't it better to show all the nasty crap on and in the skimmer anyway? I mean come on, your showing what was once in the tank.
