3 months isn't really enough time to gauge anything. And although they may appear fine, their gills have been burned and lives have likely been shortened. Chromis, clowns, and damsels are all members of the damsel family and they're hardy, which means they can survive some more adverse conditions, but it doesn't mean they're indestructible. Most fish won't survive a cycle, so consider if it can kill a fish, what does it do to fish that survive?
