People die because it was their turn. When your number is up, its up.

Not a prop ssci i dont hire plumbers etc. unless i have to.

I'm a licensed master electrician. Have been a master since 1999. Self employed, with a fluctauting flow of employee's. And yes they are alot of the time problems. wattsupdoc is my slogan. In the beautiful Ozark mountains. Wire alot of custom lake homes now. As well a srurts of resorts and the like. I like it alot. Was a supervising master for a contractor in this area at a industrial plant for about 4 years. Lotta automation type wiring, LOTTA stress. much happier here now.

Went to school for electronics, worked - factory "assembling". Was fun , but didnt pay much. Steppin stones later and Im a "traffic control electrician". Kinda fun, but too much politics. What makes a person a "master"? Years in? Or schoolin? Or both?

 Hmmm... methinks the better question is "How do I bypass a traffic signal?"

Around here what you do is go before a board, show 4 years as an apprentice, then they decide if you can test, then take a 6 hr exam, now youre a journeyman, then after 4 more years do it again only MUCH harder test. Only 20 % pass the test the first time. Some people test and re-test and give up. 23 or so years in the feild so far...no changin now. Too old....
To stuck in my ways. Dont know what else to do.

Well...I did go to the big orange home fixin stuff store today and they do have plug in GFCI outlets. ...so I will get a few of them to use and divide up my stuff over a few outlets.
What about the probe...should there be two? one in the tank and one in the sump, or is one in the sump enough?
Also I hope I didn't cause any problems here...Everyone should "kiss and make up"
, or I guess reefkeepers "frag and make up"
. You all can dance circles around most of us with all your knowledge about this stuff
. And your discussions, no matter how heated they may be
help all of the rest of us get a grasp on what to do here. So its all appreciated

Red yellow green. Traffic lights, we install, remove (not 2 often), repair, upgrade. When someone who had a few 2 many and wipes out a pole, we clean it up and put up a new one. Today, I was cutting loops, yesterday I was doing a fiber optic splice. I like it because its usually something different everyday.
How do you bypass? Find an alternate route!

One in the sump is plenty. If a fault occurs, the current will travel right through the water in your plumbing, more than enough to induce a GFI trip.
As for dividing, I'd think two is all you need... primarily, divide powerheads in the tank. Most people have only one main pump, so they kinda place all their eggs in one basket with that one. Ideally, every piece of equipment that can't be shut off for more than a few hours should be doubled up... powerheads, main pumps, everything except heaters, lights, skimmer loops, UV, ozone, etc. Of course, we don't live in a perfect world and nobody really has that... so your biggest goal should be to maintain flow... If you are like most people and have a outboard filter of some kind, put it on one GFI, and divide your powerheads across that GFI and the second GFI. Then just plug in lights, heaters, etc wherever it's convenient, but ALL must be on a GFI somewhere somehow. If you happen to have two main pumps, two canisters or two HOB, then put one on each.
