The tank was glass.
It was made by Glass Cages.
I was totally happy with the tank until the leakage. I hope they will do the right thing and reimburse me for the tank and stand at least. As of now I am getting no response from them. My insurance refuses to cover the loss because it was a manfacturers defect not an accident of any kind.

yes I agree, showing them that a lot of customers and potential customers are finding out about there bad customer service can do a lot of good. I wouldnt be suprized if they shipped you a brand new tank right away.
do you have pictures of the damage and the spot where the tank started leaking?

well for now you can try to use some calk(if thats how you spell it) if you have it around the house just so the water will stop coming out and then when you empty it you would have to replace the bottom glass.
Sorry to hear about the tank hope you dont lose any of your livestock...

Well I lost some fish, they didn't take well to the move to the smaller tank.
3 Heniochus butterfly's
blue hippo tang
pink spotted shrimp goby
mandarin dragonette
My corals seem to be recovering. The only guy looking really bad was a toadstool that had been growing like crazy before.
Still haven't heard from tha manufacturer so I have a local tank builder and a reef tank maintinance guy coming to give their opinon for a possible court case. I hate going through this, but for only 4 months actual use I paid over $2000. Thats just not right.
By the way I'm putting the remaining live rock and sand in big rubermaid containers and going to cycle it like a new tank to keep the rock and sand "live" for my new tank.

i knew somebody that had an acrylic tank spring a leak.
he put a piece of glass on the inside to cover the crack. this stopped the water from leaking out. he then sealed up the crack with something (not sure), and when that dried, he was able to remove the glass from the inside.
he did go out and buy a new tank, but this stopped the bleeding for a few days.
be lucky that you have another tank to cover for a few days.

You might want to take a look at fishheads.org website and look up kathi's tank I think the thread was 425 if I am not mistaken. She ordered a tank from Glass Cages and boy did they do a job on her. First they would not deliver it. They had their truck stop up on the main highway and she and some friends had to go get it and haul it theirselves. Then when she got it home found out the holes were drilled in the wrong spot. They had made a drawing of it on her receipt. The drawing THEY MADE was right, but they drilled the holes reverse of the picture. They REFUSED to give her the money back. And told her if she shipped it back she would have to pay all the shipping. She finally had to stop payment on it through the credit card company. Good luck with Glass Cages. They are the True Sharks.

Absolutly the same wonderful delivery I got.

The main problem I had was the estimated weight given to me was 500lbs. This thing weighs at least 1000lbs according to the tank builder I talked to. When it came time to move it from their delivery spot I had a truck with 6 movers just to get it home. (That ended up costing $600). So Glass Cages really had nothing to do with the set up. That leaves them off the hook for possible setup problems. ( Which illiminates their liability)
They are not returning my e-mails and it looks like I'm not going to receive any compensation from them.
All I can say is stay away from glass cages!!!
Warn anybody who might be looking for a new tank that trying to save a couple of bucks just isn't worth it. In the overall price of a reef system, the tank is actually a small percentage of your investment.
I beleive that acrylic is the way to go for the safest, most durable system.

Wow,
I was about a gnats --- from ordering a tank stand and canopy from them. Called, got quote ect... and did not pull the trigger. Thank you for this post and very sorry to hear your misery! I think posts like this should be continuously bumped into vieiwng. I wish this site could have a poor vendor/good vendor forum so we could all check prior to purchasing.
