Emergency !! Tank Leaking!!

Hello,
This is my first post on your board. I only registered here because I read this post and was not too happy about the things being said about CathyJ. I know these other people here too we are all from the local reef club in Kansas and we look after our members. I am very protective of Cathy, she is my shopping buddy and no one messes with Cathy or they get an ear full from CJ too!!!!! Cathy was so excited to finally get her tank SHE was there in person to get it. Her brother was no where near when the tank was delivered. In the 3 years that I have known Cathy she has dreamed of having an inwall tank and there is no way in the world she would not be present on the happiest day of her life when her tank was finally going to be here. Cathy had given very detailed instruction on the design of her tank. She then spent months trying to get the problem resolved and got no where with the company. SHE WAS NO WHERE NEAR HAPPY!!!!!!! and I can tell you that no one in their right mind would give that company any business after reading what happened to Cathy.
Cathy is very honest, kind, caring, giving and very helpful. She has given away so many frags to people in our group and asks nothing in return. Lots of times people trade her for other frags but she has helped out so many new reefers with free stuff when others were trying to charge them for xenia even. One member was having a hard time after surgery and Cathy drove 2 hours out of her way to go do water changes on the other lady's tank for her while she recovered. I myself was in an auto-accident and I have bad knees now and had to move because I could no longer go up and down the stairs so much. Cathy came over and helped me move my tanks and she did all the work carrying everything up and down the stairs for me. She has helped 3 or 4 others move their tanks too and helped with lighting and plumbing and goes and picks up group orders for us. She does nothing but give and give and give. And to see someone make negative comments about her like that just ticks me the hell off!!!!
Had the company treated Cathy better then they would have had other business from Kansas too but now there is no way I will ever order anything from them.

well stated cj. i have noticed a lot more ewbay sales from individuals on this company's aquariums since as well as local sites. i think this company has lost ALL midwest sales for anyone on the fish net. i think i'd rather try my hand at building my own tank.
buying an aquarium to me is kindof like buying a car. i always plan on upgrading eventually, so resale value is a plus to me. 1year warranty seems trivial to me on a tank. it should be easy if you believe in your work and take part in the entire delivery (which they don't) to a proper stand. i would never buy from this company as it would be impossible to sell a custom drilled tank to anyone but a reefer. i would feel really guilty suckering a newbie (cathy isn't and wouldn't do any) reefer with a tank like that.
flame flame flame

btw i'm using "this company" in order to not upgrade their search engine status.

i've never seen so many people want to use cus words as this thread.

i've also never bought a tank of that size on the side of the highway. come to think of it, i don't think any business would do that? :notsure:

LOL Well you never know.......... How about setting up a road side wedding chapel.
You drive up and a random guy/girl gets in your car sight unseen and then you are instantly married when you sign the invoice and you drive off with them and get them home and hope it works out. Sound like fun??? The sad thing is that tank cost more then a marriage license and a lot of peoples weddings, you could probably even fit a honeymoon in there too if you travel smart. Yet they just drop it off on the side of the highway instead of delivering it to your home where you can unpackage and inspect it. Even a pizza place will deliver to your door and let you look in the box before you pay them and that's $12-$20 bucks worth. Then the way the customers get the run around is just uncalled for. I am not a negative person and I hate saying bad things about someone or a company but their customer service just sucks!
I feel sorry for everyone involved, especially the poor guy who started this thread. Hopefully he can get the charges reversed. In a way I am glad that Cathy's tank was made wrong because hers might have started leaking after a few months too and that would be an even bigger disaster. I wouldn't let these people make me a friggen goldfish bowl let alone a large tank!

Now, I am glad it was made wrong too. Now I have a MUCH BETTER tank! :cheer: :cheer: It may have cost more, but at least I won't be afraid to put water in it and Miracles in Glass were great people to work with. Even if I do have a problem with the new tank, which all makers occasionally do, I know they will not give me A BUNCH OF GRIEF, and will make it right.
If you paid with a credit card call your credit card company, there are actions that they can take to get your money back. If you paid with cash or check, you can use the small claims court. If all else fails, you can check with a lawyer.
Good luck, because unless they turned over a new leaf in life, you will get no help from them!!!! And from their very recent blatant lies and fabricated story, I think it is safe to assume that they have not turned over that new leaf.

Yeffre,
Let us know how it works out and contact your credit card company too.
You might also contact the BBB and let them know how you were treated.
Good Luck,
CJ

The credit card company doubles the manufacturers warranty. (90 days from the time of purchase.) By the time I got the the thing was set up it was out of warrranty. The double warranty expired in November, so I'm screwed there too. I spoke to a custom builder about a new tank, and was told that I had no legal recourse even if the tank failed within 90 days. The company has loopholes with the delivery since they don't set it up or even drop it off at the home location. In her BS e-mail to bailey 52 she even stated that.

"In the case of your friend Kix, he apparently kept the tank in storage for months, then hired "professional" movers to put it in his house. After it was moved (twice) he noticed 2 chips that mysteriously appeared in it. We're talking months after he bought it."
"But I can't get into an uproar every time someone does something stupid to a tank."

These were replys from their company to someone else they still havn't said anything to me. They dropped a 1000 lb glass tank off in a parking lot of a Best Western. I had to have it picked up, delivered, and set up in my home myself.
The only thing "stupid" I did was deal with this company in the first place.
All I can do is to keep warning people about my experience with them.

Well hopefully no one else will buy anything from them and they will be run out of business. Places like that make me sick!!
"That Company" should be ashamed of themselves!
They offer crappy products, poor customer service and then they come to a forum and out right lie about what was said. They must be a bunch of jackholes to be able to treat people like that.

:jumping: Well I took the plunge. :jumping:
I ordered a new tank from So Cal Creations. They are the same company that built my sump for the 300. After working with my 300 I found a few things I would have liked to have done differently. Well I got my chance. The new tank is going to be a 440 gallon acrylic. I am going 6" wider and taller than my 300. The extra width is going to be used to create a deeper "canyon" in my live rock that will go from front to back 36" wide.
They are making a custom cherry wood 36" stand and 18" canopy. I went with the taller stand so the tank is up at a standing viewing level and I'll have more room underneath to work. The only drawback to that height will be working in the tank for aquascaping and coral placement and such. I try to keep my hands out as much as possible anyway. The 18" canopy will give a little better clearence for the lights too. The construction technique they use for the stand is very cool, its powder coated square steel tubing and the cherry wood is just a skin wrapped around that. The wood can be totally removed for things like sump instalation or removal and just leave the open steel frame. The woodworking they do is second to none. It's a custom peice of fine furniture that matches my pool table and bar in the same room.
They are going to deliver it to my home and do all the set-up. They offer a 5 year warranty against leakage. ( a little better than 90 days) Should be done by the end of February. I'm so excited now I can't stand it! (Once I got over the initial sticker shock of course) You know as soon as it's finished I will have lots of eye candy for you!

Ohhh Congrats!!! That sounds nice :)
As for the price of it, as long as you can buy food and gas and top off water and pay the electric bill you should be fine. :cheer:
Can't wait for pictures either

Yeffre Kix,
I am very happy for you getting your new tank on it's way. My new one cost more too, but I sure wish I would have paid it in the first place! I have a much better tank, am not affaraid to put water in it, and if any thing does happen, I know I will not have the BS that I had before!!!
I am sad that GC got away with %($_$ing you over big time! I am sure under the circumstances most other companys would have helped you out in some way!
My new tank is sitting home in the garage waiting for it's new steel stand. It is a 425 gallon tank. I think our stand is 3 X 3" square tubing, it may be 3 X 4", I can't remember for sure now. I will have a couple 180's under it to for a sump/fug and frag tank. I am curious what size steel they are using for your stand.

I saw a stand they were building at their shop and I think it was 2" square tubing. It's welded into a cube and has three support legs on each of the long sides. I was a little concerned with structural integrity in the event of an earthquake so I suggested they add corner bracing all around. Guess thats somthing you don't have to worry about in the KC area. (That's where I grew up BTW). Check out the web site for So Cal Creations. I think their web site will be listing the progress as they work on the tank. So far I havn't seen photos yet, but they only took the order last week. Now that I've decided to do it I can't wait.

I grew up in CA but have lived in KS for past 9 years and I didn't think about what an earthquake might do to a tank. When I lived in CA I always had smaller tanks and never really worried much. Here we mainly have to worry about ice storms causing power outages. As we speak I have a rubbermaid container full of battery operated pumps and spare batteries in the back corner under my desk. Since I have had them I have not lost power, but when I didn't have them I stayed up all night stiring my tank with a plastic soup ladel to break the water surface. The things we do for our tanks. What really hurt my tank the most was power outage in the summer for 24 hours and I was not home for the first 8 hours of it and lost a lot of stuff :(

Thats funny. We did have an ice storm at my house yesterday. The auto icemaker in the fridge was full and dumped a whole cupful on the floor when I pushed the little handle in the door.

Oh it was terrible!
I guess we all have different forces of nature to deal with. Your right I hate those ice storms. The worst is when you have to go to work in the morning and your car's sealed in a layer of ice.
