IMHO, there is no need for it. If you do not bring anything into to the tank, it won't appear. I don't know the products specifically, but I am not big on using anything that is not necessary, in general, I don't use anything, just water changes, life phyto, and sometimes purple up. In my opinion, garlic is snake oil, others swear by it. Corals are so sensative to every chemical in water since they are filter feeders, I can't see how in the long run, this will not at least annoy them. I guess Metronidazole is an anti-biotic, so, after awhile, it will not work. Besides, anti-biotics need to be used regularly and for a short period of time.

I hope you do tests on calcium before you use purple up.
Garlic is safe but what you buy in the fish store is practically useless. Soak a chunk of shrimp in fresh garlic juice and feed your fish. I only do it when my fish are stressed, not as a steady diet. The algae sheets with garlic just stink and it makes the tank water stink too. My .02

Becareful with highly recommended stuff. Its usually the LFS owner that wants to make some money, so don't buy too much into it. Check here first, and the pros like flower or bang will help you out. I actually highly recommend that you listen to them.

Yeah I believe that's what my post says.....Do you have ich?
I use garlic guard a couple of times a week as a soak and food enrichment....I would never use the other stuff mentioned in my tank for any reasons....

Waste of money and really shouldn't be put in the direct tank.
If you're concerened about parasites/bacteria, etc, use a quaratine tank and use it wisely.

Reading posts does not an expert make...reading books and going to school does. I don't have 5,000 posts. I had to let everyone understand after reading your kind words that I am no expert, I may steer someone wrong. I don't have the education or knowledge to help beyond some of the simple questions asked by new beginners.
I can't post a new thread on the site anymore unless I go to another computer, which I can do if a disaster strikes, since SWF changed their forum, all I can do is troll around and post some simple answers for folks...LOL..so my post count keep rising.
So I wasn’t being humble, I was being truthful and made a joke out of it to keep it light.

terrible terrible ideas. The idea of prophylactic bacteria infection treatment on healthy fish makes as much sense as offering a girlfriend a routine dose of Flagyl (brand name metronidazole) to prevent future cooties. Adequate feeding of the appropriate foods is all thats really needed for healthy fish. I dont add any vitamins, selcon, food soaks, garlic product ect. that stuff may be useful in fish that arent completely healthy, arent eating well or refuse the appropriate foods but most fish need none of that stuff. I feed foods already adequate or fortified with what they need already. Definately dont treat diseases they dont have.
