So I saw this little Clown Trigger in the LFS and against my better judgement, I bought him. Now this guy is LITTLE, I mean he's as big as a dime. But amazing thing... he's not afraid of any of the big fish I have, AT ALL! He's not even 1" and he has no problem swimming in front of a 6+" goldheart trigger. Not even my queen angel swims in front of the goldheart. I know they get mean and I porbably shouldn't have bought him. But even at this size, he's got tons of personality.
Anyway just wanted to share... sometimes I do things and later I ask myself why I did them.
This might be one of those times.

Sometimes they do seem to have more b*lls than brains. I hope he doesn't tick off one of the larger guys. If you don't mind, how much did the tike set you back?

It was $65 which is about average for Clown Triggers this size.

Good luck, they do have some stones! Watch him closely, CTs this size are known to be very difficult to raise. How's he eating?

He's eating good so far, going after the food I feed my other fish, picking off rocks, very active, he's found a good hole in a rock to sleep at night. This fish has been at my LFS for 3 weeks before I bought it. Only thing I'm worried about is if my goldheart trigger mistakes him for food one day.

He just ate some raw shrimp off a feeding stick, right along my queen angel and other triggers. Of course, first thing I do is feed the gold heart until she's full. This way she doesn't mess with the other fish.

Awesome! These little Clown Trigs are everywhere! There was one (bit more then a quarter-size) at the LFS here too. They also had a same size Blueline Trig. I was sooo tempted to get both and setup a 40gal breeder. But I'm broke as a skunk from getting my nitro r/c cars going again.

My lfs always has them in. It's funny they look like damsels and there all kept in the same tank so it looks like they school kind of. I've heard that there very fragile at this age but obviously not in your case LOL.
Good luck!

My LFS has 3 this size. My Humu humu was with one. I almost bought both. They are $65 here as well. I may go back I havent decided yet. They have a 8 inch on in another tank. That guy is gorgeous. Makes me want one so bad. It would just suck if it goes postal one day. I hate to get rid of fish I ant keep.

He eats like a pig and looks really healthy, I think he'll make it as long as my bigger fish don't kill him. But so far they all seem to ignore him, probably too small to bother with.
How fast do clown triggers grow?

Adorable!! Hopefully he learns to coexist peacefully with the other fish. They prolly know what's up. They don't want to piss him off now in hopes he'll let them live later....lol. Kind of like a baby serial killer....lol

I had a baby clown trigger. I got mine for $50 in Tampa, FL. They are fearless and they grow pretty fast. Within 6 months it gained the white stripe on the nose and was going black on the face. He was also getting really nice and thick in the belly.
He was a personality and didn't bother anyone. I have heard it is good to get them when they are young, even if the news is they are tough to survive.
I didn't feed anything live in my tank, to keep the aggression down.

There is a 7" clown and a 7" humu at my lfs that get bought and brought back every 2 weeks. They have lowered the price on both of them to just about giving them away. Every owner says the same thing. "Terrors" Been tempted to buy them myself but just haven't had the kahunas. When you put your face to the glass the smash into it. Ironically they don't mess with each other. Apparently a guy raised them together for about 3 years and brought them back when he had to move. Both these guys have nasty nasty teeth. Maybe yours being one of the last fish added will stay relativaly mild

Wow! This little guy is growing FAST!!! He's already over an inch now, approacing 2" and fat as a football. Eats like a pig and loves the nori I feed to my other fish. So far no agression at all, he seems to keep to himself ignoring all the other fish. My wife named him Manny.
