First fish allready dying

Im so sad. I dont understand it. I've let this tank cycle got all the right parameters. The LFS even tested my water before I bought the fish. 2 hours ago the fish was stuck against the powerhead. I turned the powerhead off and the fish swam off. It has been breathing really fast ever since and not swimming right. It's trying but IDK. All my readings have been perfect. I took one this am and it was great. Salinity was great. I've check the water every 15-20 mins thinking maybe I have missed something but still they all read fine.
The fish has been swimming around that dang powerhead for the last 3 days now. It seemed to want to stay next to it. And now Its going to die and I don't know why. I called my husband hysterical and all he could provide was "If your crying over a fish maybe you shouldn't try anymore"
It's only eaten 2-3 times in the last 3 days. Once 20 hours after I got it. He ate great. Once this A.M. and Once this afternoon. He seemed so active chasing the food. Grr! What have I done wrong.
I knew I shouldn't have gotten this poor thing. I should have waited until the algae cycle was over too.
Thanks for letting me vent! I'm sure theres no way you'll know whats killing him. Im just sad and had to get my first fishy murder out.

AWWWWW...So sorry to hear that...However, maybe you should keep the powerhead off for now and see what happens...it might not be your parameters....Did this fish come from a tank with powerheads? Sometimes, like at my lfs, there is no flow and i kept my powerheads off until the fish was not so stressed, then slowly started back up the flow..and I also always add the cycle bacteria with each fish and water change....but, goodluck with him....keep us updated ....

I did do a 10% water change when I got him. I turned the powerhead off when I found him and have not turned it back on. I didnt want him to get stuck to it again.

Sometimes its best not to do water changes, etc. it can stress them, when adding a new addition at he same time....How long have you had him anyway?

Yep...Just part of the game....of saltwater fish keeping...So, one more question, this fish is the very first one you have introduced to your tank....so essentially it is your cycler?

Did you acclimate the clown? There could be a big difference between your water and the LFS water even if the sg is the same. Things like minerals, dissolved solids like alkali and magnesium, ph, etc. So drip acclimation lets them get adjusted slowly so they don't go into shock from the difference.

It wasn't suppose to be a cycler! It was suppose to be my first fish that grew really old and out lived all my expensive fish I thought I foresaw getting LOL!
But yet I'd guess you would call him my cycler. He is the first fish in my tank. Lemme figure out how to post a picture of him!

You will get more.....and dont give up on the little man yet...or the other "expensive ones" you will get...
From what I understand, clowns are pretty hardy... But as stated above..you could of moved him from a tank with bad parameters, and moved him into yours which are good....just as an example...so this little man could be really stressed...No signs of ick or anything I hope??? Yep we all love pics!!!!

Uploading to photobucket now. I don't think he has ick. He doesn't have white patches but his color is lighter on his back half. I did acclimate him. Atleast how the pet store said to. I floated him in the bag for 20 mins. The added 1/4 a cup of my tank water every 20 mins until I had done it 4 3 times. (one hour) Then After that I released him.

He looks ok how strong is that powerhead. Hes a little one so he wont be able to fight out of a strong powerhead.

Oh, and I just thought that I would mention it...when I recently added a new little baby clown, during the day he would hang above the anemone, and at night, he swam directly in front of my koralia powerhead....

I googled it earlier today when I noticed it but couldn't find anything about it. Someone on here posted that there fish had the same problem but died. Their water perms were the best though. (Had some ammonia) Someone mentioned ammonia poisoning, but I don't see how that could have applied to this fish who has been in my tank for 3 days with with good water perms .
Is there any chance that he got sucked in the powerhead and just couldn't get out and now he is stressed because of that. Did he have to be sick/dying to get sucked into the powerhead?

The powerhead is rated for 20-30 gallon. It does 160 gph if that helps at all. He does seem to be doing better. His breathing isn't as rapid and he isn't in his cave. He is still swimming strange though.

I would keep it off for now, and add it later. It is good that he seems less stressed. Hopefully, he didnt get a fin damaged or something. Goodluck, and like I said, keep us posted....
