Hey girls, you looking for me!!! I have not bee online here in AGES. My mother was again in and out of the hospital and things have been so busy with the kids and school. When Katrina came through a friend who lived in Louisiana stayed with us for a week but she was one of the fortunate ones....her house was still liveable so they are back there again.
The tank is doing fine, my corals are basically outgrowing the tank....I will post some pictures for you all later. I have the colt coral still to frag after all this time, it is insanely huge. I have not been able to frag it because I don't have a frag tank for it to recoup in, so hoping to set one up soon. My friend who does that for me got married so he has not been around much...well sorry to have worried you all, be around later, hope you all had a great thanksgiving....family is in town from Ohio and they just stepped in the door....ta ta to all!

Zano-I think you may be speaking of the anthia?? Ant can tell you for sure though.
Julie- Phew, so relieved to hear that things are going well and that you are staying busy. I can't wait to see some recent pictures, the tank must be looking gorgeous as ever! How is your sun coral? Still eating daily?
Good news here, a little Kents Garlic Xtreme lured the little guy out from hiding. :cheer:

JULIE!!! So good to hear from you!!! Glad everything is going well.
Fishmamma, I'm also very glad to hear that your little fish is fine. I'm constantly workingg myself into a lather about my critters. Almost daily I go over the count my snails, look for my brittles, etc., etc.

Here's a pic of my pink zoos. I just took it tonight after work. I think they're doing really well, spreading to the adjacent rock on the left...

I also wanted to tell you that I posted another thread!! I bought a rock of fuzzy mushrooms and a beautiful little frogspawn coral within the past week or so...I feel myself getting carried away...think I'll just go with it!! :hilarious
I'm hoping that my clowns will host with the frogspawn...I can't believe how much like an anenome it looks and acts. For now though, they're happy little campers with their devil's hand.
Sorority sisters united once again...let's not lose each other!!

too funny....I have a huge frogspawn and my silly female clown chooses the bubble. I think lately the bubble is agitated by her......but my male goes now to the other side and hosts the plate coral!!!! It is so odd. He has LEFT her for the plate coral..he loves it.
I have a few new pics, gotta get them here online....been so long barely can remember how, but will try....

Julie- just re-size the photos to 500 pixels or less I believe, then upload them using the bar on the post page. Can't wait to see some pics. How peculiar(sp?) that your male left the female for the plate!!
Lisa- Thanks for posting a pic, we have two very different varieties. Some day when my colony gets a bit bigger we could do a frag swap. Mine were shipped fedex flat rate ($12) and did well over the 2 or 3 day trip with a heat pack. So maybe by spring we can do a swap?? How is the macro algae doing in your tank? Is it just sitting in one place not blowing around? I have wondered about just dropping it in like that since I would like to add some to lower my nitrates. Post some fuzzy shroom and frogspawn pics when you get a chance, what a score on the fuzzy shrooms! They are always out of my budget. Sigh........

We're Back!!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We got back last night. It is always hard leaving my home town but always good to get back to our current home. Can't wait to unpack our boxes for good! All the pets did well, whew!!
I have a red algae bloom now on the sand in one part of my tank. What do I do for that? Any suggestions would be great. The people who watched our dog just loved him and wanted to keep him. Made my son a little nervous. They really treated him well and spoiled him. That was good. The xenias grew and grew and so did the frog spawn. Amazing what a week will do. Boy I wish I could send you some xenias fismamma!
By the way, love the pictures. I'm so glad the pink zoos made it safe and sound Fishmamma!
Julie, I'm so glad to hear you're doing well and everything is okay.
Monalisa, it's always hard leaving the animals. I'm sure they will do fine. It's not hard on them just us.
Zano-that's a pink and orange anthia. She's really fun to watch in the tank. Lots of animation. A very happy addition.
Off to try and get the house in order again and unpack all of the suitcases...ugh! The worse part of traveling.

Good seeing everyone! :joy: Ant.

Ant_ YAY!! Glad to hear you are home safe and everybody fared well while you were gone. As for the algae there is a thread somewhere on this site if you think it is that red bacteria stuff, cyano. Just do a search, I think it was locked and put somewhere for reference.
I wish I had a better camera, can't really get a good shot of the new zoas or a non-blurry picture of the fish.

Hi Ladies!!
I'm glad to hear that everyone had a safe and happy holiday.
Julie, I was under the impression that you get rid of red algea the same as green hair...I could be wrong on that though. Both are such a nuisance.
My daughter and son-in-law and I checked out a new fish shop on Sunday. Man, they had EVERYTHING, including a staff that knew what the heck they were doing. The thing is, though, they had green bubble algea in so many of their tanks!! I went down there in hopes of finding a new, cool coral (which I did), but I was afraid of bringing something like that home. I expessed my concern about the green bubble algea, and the guy started to explain to me how easily I could get rid of it (??????). I had to explain to him that I wasn't worried about my tank, but about buying something and bringing it home.
I ended up choosing a sweet little frogspawn coral (no, no bubble algea included). He's a great addition and looks so pretty.
Here's a pic of him that I took yesterday after work...

Lisa, love the new addition. Looks a little like mine but different. I really enjoy my frog. He's grown a lot too. It's so nice to go in an LFS and drool. It's even better when the people know what they have.
Fishmamma, thanks for the info. I went back after I wrote and the engenere gobi moved all of the sand around and covered the red stuff. Ugh! it's always something. I will work on it though because I know it will return.
We all went back to work and school yesterday. Very hard. Johnny had a bad day in school which increased my guilt and doubts about work. I hope tomorrow will be better.
Can't believe it's the last day of November! Time is moving way too fast! Have a great week ladies.
Ant.

Ant- Awe, I hope Johnny had a better day today. It is an adjustment for you all no doubt! I know some parents who are on their 3rd pre-school trying to find 'the right fit' for their child.
Lisa- Ooooh, what a gorgeous little coral! Thanks for getting a picture up so quickly, it will be interesting to see if your clowns take to it with time.
My mystery goby is having some color change, his bottom fins and tail are turning black and deep purple, spent hours today trying to ID him again with out any luck. Also not sure if my yellow clown is a twobar or twoband. Hard to find pictures of both juveniles and adults to compare. :hilarious Went to LFS to discuss possible lighting uprgade, no good solution for MH on my tank, even the fixtures with mounting legs will not fit my tank so I am back to the drawing board.

MMMM-I like ribs.
Do you mean the kind you eat? :notsure:
We had a nice day today but it wasn't a school/work day. We go back tomorrow. He only has school on Tues and Thurs, which are the days I work. I put in an extra day here and there. Friday is one of those days. I'm probably going to talk to my boss tomorrow and tell her that I cannot do extra days. It's just too hard. It's not worth the trouble with my son. We'll see. Thanks for the kind words.
I forgot to mention something about your fish. Did you get new ones? Did I miss something? How fun to watch them change colors. So sorry about your light issue. I hope you figure it out.
Ant. :joy:

I have been a die hard griller for ribs, but I found a GREAT oven recipe and they fall off the bone. Let me knowif you want it.

No new fish, just the goby I got a month or so ago is changing colors. He is getting an intense copper and gold in his spots and his bottom and tail fins are darkening to black and deep purple. Very curious to see how he ends up. The LFS guy is stumped by this (and the fact he paired with my shrimp after kicking out Mr. Yasha) since he is 'not a shrimp goby'. ***) Same old stuff with my clown. He was just an itty-bitty little thing when I got him, was sold as a "twoband" or Bicinctus but I have come to question this from his markings, I think he may be an Allardi or "twobar".

I placed what was supposed to be a small order and turned into a large one that will really hurt when the bill comes in.
(was going to do the priority mail shipping for zoas only but we are do for a Noreaster Monday so I had to upgrade last minute to overnight. So then I added on a few things since I was paying for overnight.
) Anyway, the good news is I am getting a free bag of chaeto......just thinking of dropping it in the tank for the time being until I get a clip on light for my hob filter. Does this sound OK? Is that what you did Lisa??
Wait until I show you my new goods, can't wait!!

How is everyone else this weekend?
Anyone want the rib recipe and some other good frag info? If you are interested I will send you an e-mail with the info. :jumping:

Hi again.
Yup, I just dropped my chaeto right into the tank. I can't say whether it's doing anything functionally, but it does look pretty nice...adds some color.
I can't wait to see the pics of your new goodies. I love getting new stuff for my tank!! Did you order your new stuff from here, or somewhere else?
Our son-in-law is crazy for ribs. I would love that recipe for them!! It would be a nice surprise for him to enjoy some really good ribs during the winter months.
Julie, I hope that work and school is getting at least a little easier. I remember those days when my daughter was little. Everything works out eventually...just hang in there and do what you gotta do.

FM, you've got mail.
I'm having an exciting day. I was at the lfs late this morning and I finally decided to purchase a little royal gramma they've had for a while. He's about as cute as can be. I can't wait till he's done acclimating and I can introduce him into the tank. It's been forever since I've added any fish, I think he'll be a great addition.
I'll post pics as soon as I can, assuming he's not going to be too timid around the camera.
I'll let you know how his acclimation goes, another 2 hours yet...

Oh yeah, the reason I went into the lfs to begin with...I got a new heater. I don't want a repeat of Wednesday evening's incident. This one should be just the ticket, easier to set, easier to read, etc. I sure hope I have good luck with it...:hilarious
