Yeah....I think I also would change to a solid black background....and maybe just add some rock and build up some more

You sound like me with my old 155. I can tell you from experience, blue backgrounds suck! Literally. They give no "pop" to your corals and make everything just look drab.
As far as rock work, Slice gave you a good idea. What I've found to work best for fish, flow and allowing cool spots for coral placement is adding more branch pieces in the middle and bottom layers. So many tanks have all their branch pieces up top. In my 180, I started with three pyramids. Each one had a cave. Then I bridged pieces across to connect each pyramid, which also created more caves.
Personally, I think you just need more interesting branch and shelve pieces of rock. I don't think your tank looks bad, but I understand the frustration, and if you're not happy with it, it's time for a makeover.

If it were me, I would break up the levelness of the rockwork. Bring a bit forward, push a bit back, stack it up here, lower it down there. Maybe add a piece or two if needed.
I agree with Flower and Snake about the background.

Randomly pick out a picture of a mountain range with a valley below. Imagine the tank looking like that.

Can you see the 'nem? Its on the left bank of the lake.
I wish I had seen this post before I demolished my tank. I think I am going to add more rock in the near future and use your idea of picking a mountain range.
I think everything went OK with the remodel. I discovered that a fish, I thought for sure was dead, is alive. I have a few chitons and my scutus can wedge itself in some tight spots. Right now everything is mad about the remodel. I'll post pics when the water clears.

I have always wanted to do a 150 gallon version of this 10 gallon aquascape. I just never got around to it.

Just commenting now since the deed is done. I've learned that less LR is better. Its not the LR that makes a reef tank, its the coral. LR is just the framework for the coral.
Guy, you are a bad boy.

Thanks! All the pics were taken at the same time with the same light and camera settings. I'm not sure why the last pic came out so bright. It shows the brightness of the halides.

Hi Krista...
How much space do you have behind your tank? Tank to wall space that is. Lol....... You know what would look fabulous in that system wouldn't you? hahaha

Very nice Gemmy!
The rockwork is much more visually interesting and it looks like you now have many more spots for coral.
Great job!

I have about 5 inches between the wall and the tank. What would look fabulous? I think I'm missing something.

Hey Krista I hope you don't mind I took one of your pictures and painted a black background.

Ohhh, I really like that. Thanks! The background is definitely coming off now.

Looks very nice! I do like the uniqueness of the background however if it were a pattern like that in black it would look much better! Also a nice big sized coral like a leather or elegance maybe even a pearl bubble would really make that tank pop!

Krista - I use fusion krylon on all of my tanks - you can buy it in a can and you can use a small roller to apply it, do not use a sponge roller it doestn't give good coverage. The nice part about using a roller you can do right in your house without all the fumes from a spray can. Good luck.
