Man, I have like 200+ pounds of base rock laying around - one piece is about 50 pounds and extremely holey. It would have looked perfect in your tank if you lived close enough to pick it up.

wow that would be cool but I think we are a bit far apart. I mayu order a case of dry rock at some point in the near future depending on how much work I get in the coming weeks, work has been sporadic at best lately so I dont have a lot of spare cash.

Here is the new algae screen after 10 days some brown but a nice mass of green growing in the center.
sorry for the crappy picture

I'm going to clean it off and see how much I get.

Very nice! Think of what your tank would look like if that much algae was growing in it instead of the screen.... Good job. :D
My advice helped huh?

I like the nrew design better for sure, it seems to grow more and faster, your advice did help. I just need to figure out a way to get my second light closer as well.

When am I getting the specs on how to make one Snake?

Hey guys, I have been following this thread for some time now. Nice work with the Algae scrubber. I would like to add one to my fuge but I don't think I have the space! I do not have really any hair algae at all so I don't know if it is worth it. Any thoughts? Nice tank!

Yeah, its worth it and since you have a fuge, just build yourself an upflow algae scrubber. It's submerged, all yah got to do is stick it to the back glass. Scrubbers are worth the effort. You will see that in a month or two of reefkprZ tank going - all the algae and cyano will start disappearing and coralline will start growing really well.

Ok, so if all the alge is gone, what will my snails eat? Should I just get rid of them or down size the amount? I have a ton of cheato macro alge in my sump, any of you close by D.C Metro area. Would like to get rid of some, cant see my self just throwing it away. I had to cut away some and put it in my QT tank. Thanks for the advise I will continue to watch theis thread as its pretty good! Thanks!

Also Reefkprz, how long will it take your coral to start growing. I have mushrooms and zoas, I know you said that you feed 5-7 times a day ( i do not have the time nor think I would) but do you see noticable grown in weeks or months?

the 5-7 times a day is on a full blown reef, thats crammed with occupants, corals microfauna etc. and slowly built up to. but yes in the end I wind up with corals that grow faster than any other local growers, I know this because the stores I sell to let me know that I am bringing in frag at 2x the rate of anyone else with less growing space. I had a 75g and was semi- constantly fragging whilst the others with 200+g of growth space were only bringing in frags revery 2 months I was doing so once a month, bringing in as much or more corals healthier , more colorful and firmly attached not quick glued and sold. not to have them peelo off the rocks in the display at the store.
I am kind of set in my ways when it comes to reef food and water changes. here's my take period: feed a ton and do a ton of proper water changes. you cant go wrong with having good equipment to back it up but, and get this I have been running a coralife super skimmer for YEARS, and every one swears they are junk. guess so, its junk I can make work.I swear by myu 50% water changes and people say its too much. but not if your feeding like you should be. the only draw back to clean water is.... clean water. in a super heavy reef with mass growth dosing multiple elements and doing water changes is like cutting off your nose to spite your face, you dose then remove part of whart you dosed with the water change. pick a salt stick with it and find a constant water change regiment that works for you.

Hey that sounds great, I do not doubt you one bit, I know that everyone has there preference in this hobby. I have a coral life super skimmer that I had to tweak for about 2 weeks till I got it the way I want it, and you know what....It works great! I can't complain at all, I have a ton of filtration on my 75 gal that should be on my 90 gal. My over flow is rated at 2400 GPH with two 1200 gph return from my sump, also I have a fx5 filter that is being used as a chemical filtration system. I do feed more than 3 times daily. I also spot feed my yellow eye kole at night because all my other fish are in the rock work. One thing that i can say is that you learn something every day with this hobby. Just the other day I noticed on of my BTA looked very "stringy and hiding in some rock work" I thought that he was dying! I started to test all the water pram thinking that because I was feeding too much or the water change that i did a few days ago was not good enough. Turns out that he just had enough light for that day, i had the lights on for 12 hours because I was having a house party and took the lights off there normal timer. Well long story short everything is fine. But Its good to learn new ideas and techniques to do things other ways. Had the Internet been around when my first SW tank crashed 11 years ago, well I prob would not have had the tank crash! Looking forward to seeing some more progress on your tank, and I am happy to be a part of this community and i will be starting a thread soon to share some of my ways that are working for me. I have started looking at some ideas for a alge sceubber. I think what I am going to do is since i have very little room in my sump, I will creat a seprate sump for just the alge scrubber. Any thoughts?

I need to order more salt mix. I think I am going to go back to reef crystals since this current salt is having a hard time maintaining alk and calcium levels.
I ordered this stuff, kent marine mix, because the lable said it had appropriate levels of calcium etc numbers listed right on the side of the bucket. so far I am not imnpressed with the salt, it doesnt mix clear its always foggy for at least 36 hours after mixing.

Meowzer you've been around long enough to know there's NO magic mix in a container......The salt is a fad that we've all seen go on throughout this hobby.....Somebody starts using it and says it's the greatest thing since slice bread and then everyone runs with it.....There isn't 1 particular salt that will be correct for everyone. The best scenario is to find a salt that gets you close to your "target numbers" and go from there. That might encompass buffering your salt mix from the get go.
