General Petraeus has been an outstanding commander. My worry is that he has been in nearly constant combat for over 7 years now. Having your boots on the ground in hostile territory is mentally and physically demanding. There is nothing else in the world to compare it to. He's also coming up quickly on 60 years of age which is ancient in the military world. i hope he doesn't burn out because fighting with one arm tied behind your back has got to be a lot more challenging.
Dunno, I'd bet being in combat is a lot less stressful for some of those guys than putting up with the politicians in DC.

there are times that i prefer to be deployed compared to dealing with politics that's for sure. Life is very simple especially when you do live out in the boonies, you learn to enjoy the little things in life.
reefraff- i hope your son stays safe over in the 'ghan and good luck to him.

Same to you. He has a "in the rear with the gear" kinda job so he isn't seeing near the action you probably do. He does have convoy duty which isn't exactly safe but with the size of the truck he's driving I doubt an IED would take him out.

This is a fine example of our First Amendment rights. Yes, you can voice your opinion, even a general. Everyone has that right.
I just wanted to mention that when you put on the uniform your First Amendment Rights are suspended. He actually does not have the right to voice his opinion. Fact is many military members have been Courts-Martialled for doing less. If President Obama wished it criminal charges could be brought up.
That said, posting a happy banana about losing a general that has sacrificed himself to such a great extent is in very poor taste. I would equate it to the people dancing in the streets after the World Trade Center was destroyed.
