We went and picked him up at the main post office at 3:30 in the morning! He is alive and well, and wayyyy small. He (or she) is about an 1-1 1/2 inches long, and green with yellow tips. We will see if he changes in his environment. Can't wait to see pics

so i grabbed the visitherm heater today...are they completely submersible? id like to put the entire thing under water horizontally in the tank. will this work?

From what I have read about the heaters, they are submersible. I don't see why it would be a problem being horizontal.
Our mantis is being very shy. I think we are going to try and move him into a smaller tank. He literally gets lost in the 20 long. I will have to start a tank diary tonight so you won't have to be subjected to my mantis stories on your thread
. He is just too much fun to watch (when we can see him)

so he's shy huh. hell probably warm up to you sooner or later. if you post stuff here it would be more interesting then what ive got hahahahahaha some rock and snails.......thats about it
i cant wait till my tank is ready. heck it probably is i just havnt had time to check the params yet. im gonna do that now and post em soon.
ps: i will take more pics when i get some stuff in the tank. it will also be easier in a few weeks once wrestling season is over........wrestling takes up too much time (when im not practicing or actually wrestling im either sleeping, running, trying not to eat hahaha). so hopefully in about a month i can get lots of corals and pics

Gharner -
We went to the LFS today and they had a mantis that must have been 6" long. I was in awe. It started "scratching'' its eyes, and doing some sort of weird cleaning ritual. It was amazing.
Post the pics when you get em.
Also, if you turn off your flash, and turn on the "flower" icon, and play around with your settings, you should find on that works.
My camera - while it doesn't take GREAT pics - is decent. It has an aquarium mode specifically for close-up aquarium pics. Im sure I can improve my pics if I learn more about that mode.
Good luck!

i know...my lfs has a 5 inch peacock mantis shrimp it does the same cleaning thing with its eyes haha its soo cool. although my species of mantis will be much smaller i still thing they're neat. do a google image search for Wennerae. theres a cool upclose pic of one. thanks for the info about the camera as well......im not sure how to turn the freakin flash off though!!!its makin me mad.
params: ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 5ppm
i think its finally time to add some corals from the 12 gallon!!!

the temp in the tank is stable now with the heater, i have the flow perfect, params are looking good, and the diatoms are being cleaned up. im gonna add some stuff to it tomorrow after school and ill try to take some pics but i cant promise anything

Params look good!!! So when are you getting your mantis?
We bought some corals for ours, but they are in our 29 gal. reef until we figure out what the heck we are going to do with him/her, and until we get out good light on Wednesday. Mantis came quicker than our lighting
Right now we just have a clip on.
Trust me, I know what you feel like with being so busy. Sports in high school keep you so busy you barely have time to sleep once you fit in homework, etc.

who has time for homework hahaha jk. i probably wont be getting my mantis for a while. im running short on money. i will probably just start to aquascape with corals that are waiting in my 12 gallon. im thinkin of getting him in feb. or march....we'll see. i might get impatient and just get him sooner with my "gas" money or something hahahaha

Patience is something that I don't have much of unfortunately. I'm glad someone does...hopefully you will be able to get him sooner. Your tank will be lonely without him(or her)
Who cares about driving places, heck, if you have your mantis you don't need to go anywhere anyways

oh dont let me fool you hahahahaha im very impatient......but i kinda have to wait for a little while cause i dont have much $ hahaha. another incentive i have for waiting is getting my corals from my 12 gallon into the 3 gallon. i want to get some corals in before i get my mantis that way my hands are for the most part out of the water......dont wanna get smashed, especially with a tank this small, theres not much room

Nice, what kind of zoos? I love zoos, so many different color variations to choose from. We are getting a couple of really nice polyps from Hypertek99 next week!

ok sooo.....good news and bad news......
the good news first: i had a great invention. i was wondering how to make an algea scraper that could rub the algea off the walls of the tank, but without scratching it. so heres what i did.......a cabob stick.....and a sock with a little super glue and ur good to go hahahaha. its strong enough to scrape off algea but soft enough to not damage the acrylic

now for the bad news.....i have a scratch on the tank already!!!

it is on the out side and i have no idea where it came from....i havnt even really been near the tank for a few days and at first i actually thought is was just a spot where saltwater had evaporated but when i tried to rub it off it didnt go away!!!

is there anything i can do to fill it in??? like clear nail polish or something???
